[viktor's sleep schedule has never been a solid thing, one way or another. it's a lot to do with workaholic tendencies mixed with the general aches of his body rather than insomnia or, say, nightmares, but more often than not he finds himself pushing his limits. exhaustion is familiar, what isn't is the level of it he feels by the fifth day of nightmares.
when he closes his eyes he can play flashes of them against his eyelids, tubing and ivs and hospital beds, the pressure of his filling lungs, vats where pickled, dying creatures wait to be dissected and jayce's quiet the doctors said... decay and and the sterile, chemical smell of trying to cover that decay. the feeling of everything slipping away to the horrifying reality of complete stasis.
he is very tired. it shows in the bags under his eyes, the greasy, unkempt mess of his hair. on this fifth day he tries to go out to the canals, mind a little too muddled to think of more useful things, just watching the boats of the willful machine go by.
and stumbling on his way, falling to his knee with a hiss and a flare of pain that at least clears his mind for a blessed few moments. there aren't many people out today, perhaps because of the earthquakes only a few days before, so he lets himself have a moment to kneel there and recover.]
