[the tunnels are just too appealing to leave to alone, or really leave to a single exploration if viktor is being honest. curiosity is a hell of a thing, and when a few days of the tunnels existing doesn't lead to reports of terrible monsters or beasts roaming them well...

it's likely in a casual meeting with luna that viktor brings up the idea of going to get a better look, and that leading to actually going for that better look because nerds are apparently Like That. getting down into the tunnels was a touch annoying, given he isn't exactly built for it, but once they're down his cane and stubbornness manage most of the heavy lifting.]
