Having a relationship was a new thing to Luz, so if she were to lose Lexi at this stage, she'd probably be more than a little devastated. This let her know that Makoto was in a place where relationships didn't have to define you to your core. It actually gave her hope that one day she'd be able to move past her loved ones going in at least a more positive direction.
