I’m sorry. [ genuine and heartfelt but she quickly remembers herself and why they were here in the first place ]

I bet she wouldn’t be happy to see you this way. [ there’s less bite to the statement, her desire to be petty dissolved away by her own grief, and in its place is something soft and urging ]
