for iskander, august underwater quests
viktor's already there, shoes and socks tucked on a rock and knee deep in the water when he notices iskander and raises a hand in greeting.] You know where I am from shipwreck stories usually go hand and hand with hauntings, skeletal pirates, things of that nature.
[amused. as far as he knows it's tamer than that, thankfully. probably.]

So he was relieved to receive Victor's message. Doubly so to see the man in person when he arrives. He comes prepared, wielding a spear of his own making. A trident would be more appropriate, but Iskandar neither has the means nor the skill to have one fashioned for himself, yet. More the reason for a trip to a proper shipwreck for some pillaging to sound more enticing.]
Where I come from such stories are about sea monsters, a huge variety of them. I have a feeling we might encounter those skeletal pirates, sea monsters, or some combinations of both.
[The wide grin on his face clearly indicating what he thinks about such an incident.]

We had some quite large sea creatures, I'll admit. Here? I can only imagine. Beings like us come from the sea, after all.
[a very, very odd place.] Thank you for coming. I'm afraid curiosity got the best of me here. How does it go... fortune favors the bold, or so I've heard.

[Okeanos was his goal. He never reached it. It feels oddly appropriate that here, for this new life, he emerged from the sea.]
He who risks none, gets none. That's the one I know.

Oh, I like that one. [he considers it like he's keeping it in mind, likely to use on someone telling him to slow down. always good that have ammo there.] Did you make that spear yourself? Or a weaponsmith here?
no subject
That one, yes, I made myself. [Iskandar winces. That's far from excellence he prefers. Still, he's always adapting. It just doesn't always feel good.] I'd rather have a weapon master do it, but well, it's been a bit too late for that. Not that I'm really proud of it, but I'd wager, lacking as it does, it still might be more useful than a sword.
[He'd love a trident, but well, he doesn't have one, and makeshift spear will still have more reach than the sword. Swords are good for fighting people. Sea monsters are usually bigger than that.]

It would certainly do better underwater. Frankly I'm impressed, most wouldn't know where to start with metal work of this nature. I could point you to some people who may be able to help, if you'd like.
In truth there is nothing I miss more from my world than personal access to a blacksmith. [such a sigh.]
no subject
[Victor's sigh is met with understanding. One thing Iskandar misses the most is his army. He has friends here, all of them wonderful people, but there's only one person who he is as close with as he was with his hetairoi.]
Access to specialists can literally be game changing in any endeavour.
[He fishes out two, dark bottles to show them to Victor.]
That reminds me! I have purchased those two as a precaution. Those are potions for breathing underwater. The potion master said they should last a couple of hours. I hope we won't need them, but it never hurts to be prepared for the unexpected.
no subject
[frankly so does he, given he's making vi's gauntlets, but bladework is a whole other matter.]
Oh. [his eyes brighten as he regards the bottles, taking one if allowed to look it over.] Excellent idea, thank you Iskander. [this certainly bumps up iskander in the ranks of people good to go do exploring with, a man with forethought on the matter.] My omen will be joining us as well, she should be able to move either or both of us quickly if need be.
[she is indeed a large creature when she's brought forth, glancing iskander over with a tilt of her massive head before skittering excitedly down to the water. viktor huffs, an amused breath before he turns his faint smile to Iskander.] Shall we?

[Time might have passed, and he had on many an occasion used technology more advanced than what was available to him at his time. Still, remote communication while incredibly useful is making him a little uncomfortable.]
Superb! Unfortunately, I have to leave mine out of this. Cats hate water, and metal cats doubly so. I'm afraid it would only slow us down.
[The question is met with the brightest, widest of grins. No time to tarry when adventure awaits.]
Yes, let us go!
