Yes, Murderbot thinks, this is exactly like talking with a CombatBot. It's sure CombatBots can have rich inner lives. Balin's inner CombatBot—Murderbot isn't sure. Probably it lay dormant, scanning for messages. Who knows what it thought about that.

2B is inured to death. Close calls, forced shutdowns, they aren't the same as dying, as being dead. The organic part of constructs cannot be so readily backed up, not that the memory backup and return to life process is in its wheelhouse (dying once in Trench, notwithstanding).

"You didn't answer the question," Murderbot says, "If the number didn't matter, you wouldn't have to say that. You'd just say two hundred and twenty-six or whatever it is." The number sounds ridiculously high, but Murderbot has no sense of scale.
