1. glow in the dark (Cellar Door // any weekday, 5th-10th)
[ Akko hadn't interacted much with her Omen. Hadn't felt the need, really. But when she woke up on the morning of the fifth, blind as a bat, her Omen was the first to come out and quell her panic, and quickly became her lifeline. A seeing-eye fish, if you will. Unfortunately it's hard to get accustomed to a world you can't see, but once she heard about Cellar Door she had an idea of how she could start helping people - with magic, of course.
You can find Akko in two types of places: On the street, probably bumping into you and apologizing profusely as a silver and black koi fish stares at you with uncomfortable intensity, swimming around her in tight circles.
Alternatively, she's found a small coffee shop/lounge with an open mic and has been practicing her illusion magic there at night. Shockingly, not being able to see the flashy lightshow she's performing has helped. The reactions of the audience tell her how she's doing and she's learning to cast by feel as a result. ]
2. akko's delivery service (Crenshaw // any day at all, 11th-17th)
[ Once she regains her sight, Akko spends most of her time cleaning up the messes she made in her house in Crenshaw while she was blind. Her hearing is gone, of course, because there is no rest in this hell. But! Hex, as her Omen has informed her she is called, continues to be a lifeline, translating words to texts to her Omni.
Akko had actually spent enough time putting on neat little magic shows to earn herself a broom. It's basically a ceremonial thing - little more than a branch with hay tied to the end - but she found that at night? She could fly it flawlessly. Something about the moon's energy being strongest, she figures. And she spends a lot of time in Crenshaw just going up and down the street, practicing. Perhaps you're waving her down to ask why she's flying a broom. Or maybe you're the opportunistic sort? Several people have asked her to deliver small packages to and from the boardwalk and various residences, which she has happily obliged. Maybe she's delivering a package to you, even! ]
3. by the NUMBers (Boardwalk // any weekday, 18-24th)
[ Would you believe it takes her a full day to realize she can't feel anything, physically? And only because she notices a big bruise in the mirror that she doesn't feel in the slightest. With a sigh, Akko sets about figuring out what she can still do this week. And as it turns out, she can do repair magic for the ships, fishermen, and dock workers on the boardwalk. Hex stays out permanently now, a smokey fish circling her at all times. You can find her mending nets mostly, waving her wand and saying a soft series of words before the tip of the wand glows and the net begins moving of its own accord, frayed threads mending back seamlessly.
Hex probably spots you before Akko does, but Akko will turn shortly after with a slight wave and a friendly smile. ]
Need something mended? [ She asks, dark bags under her eyes. Her hands are just absolutely covered in bruises and tiny cuts. Akko yawns, her jaw popping as she opens it too wide. ] No charge, but I won't turn down supplies if you think I did a good job!

Akko's Delivery Service
Right now? Nothing. And that nothing made Luz absolutely restless.
So Luz hopped onto Owlbert and was flying about tonight, grumbling to herself and mostly feeling sullen when she spots a familiar person in the air, like her! It was Akko, that girl with the nice-looking house! Luz streaked toward her, giving a wave].
Hey Akko! I didn't know you had your own broom!
By the NUMBers
Not right now, I'm good.
But if you've got time for a break- I've got a bag of cookies I could use a hand eating.
1
Mostly since it makes her think as she watches it. Ange recognizes the magic for what it is, but she can't be too sure if this is blood magic - it'd have to be some sort of.. darkblood, perhaps, she thinks - or just a natural power this person brought in from their own world.
Regardless, she watches the entire set, only approaching the girl once it seems like the act is over for the evening.
She may not fully realise that said girl can't see, but thankfully the fact someone is approaching her should be clear to Akko through the sound of footsteps, followed up by someone speaking up. ]
Those were some pretty neat tricks. Do you use those often?
no subject
Oh, hey there! Sorry, I can't hear anything right now - no worries though, Hex will message me whatever you say. [ Her voice is pitched...oddly. She can't modulate it by sound, after all. But the words are recognizable. ] Yeah! I earned it doing magic shows in Cellar Door. I finally got my magic figured out!
no subject
Wow, you mean it? I should probably eat something actually, I don't think I've had anything since...breakfast, yesterday, I guess. [ She doesn't feel the hunger pains. ] I can take a break - let me just let the sailors know I'll be gone for a few.
[ She goes to stand up and immediately bangs her shin into the crate she was sitting on when she turns too sharply. Doesn't even flinch. Disappears behind a stack of cargo crates for a second and returns with a big smile. ]
What kind of cookies? Chocolate chip? Oatmeal?! Oh man I'd do anything for a gingersnap actually.
no subject
Hey, thanks! Not often, no. I've only just started exploring what I can do with my new magic. [ Ange might notice the lunar orb tucked under her arm as she shifts it to a more comfortable position. ] The ability to make flashy little illusions like that is pretty new for me. I've been using these open mic nights for practice.
2.
What's funny, too, is that the description of the girl should be familiar to Akko, and it just cinches it when the kindly, old granny tells her that the girl is supposedly living in Crenshaw. As payment for the delivery, the older woman lets Akko know she can have her pick of fresh fruit and veggies, and a jar of preserves as well - her pick, or one of wildflower honey, if she prefers that instead.
The girl, who is obviously known to be Ochako at this point, is shockingly at home, too! For once. Normally she's out shopping for things, and lately she's been working hard, too, but today she decided to get some house chores done after her morning run...and a bit if light shopping. It's gotten much colder, and stocking up on some new blankets, quilts, and warmer clothes for Bakugou (who hates the colder climate) is just planning ahead and a good investment. She's actually hanging up the laundry out back now, having washed the new clothes, but the sheets and quilt should be air-dryed.]
Hm-hm-hmm...I am a Hero too... ♪
no subject
When she arrives, a woven basket of goods is hanging off the front of her broom. She actually spots Ochako in the back yard while flying overhead and lowers herself down with a chipper wave. When she speaks, Ochako might notice her voice is a little off - loud and pitched oddly, like she can't hear herself. ]
Hey, Ochako-chan! Surprise!
[ The broom bobs as she wiggles excitedly, complaining about her lack of focus in its own inanimate object way. Without the active light of the moon, her control is a little less precise, but her nighttime practice has paid off and she's able to fly very consistently. Fast learner. ]
no subject
Sorry about the loss of hearing! But I'm glad you've got a broom...or should I call it a besom? Either way, now we both can fly!
I meant to ask! What magical things could you do back in your world?
no subject
Ochako doesn't quite catch the tonal shift right away, too caught up in her excitement to fully notice, or have it register. She waves her hands wildly, nearly trips over her laundry basket, and actually hare the foresight to spot anything that might accidentally fall from that basket. Was she doing shopping earlier and thought to stop by? How sweet!]
Akko-chan!! Uwaaah, you finally got your broom1! It's so cool, oh my goodness! You're really flying!!! [As if Ochako hasn't seen others fly with their quirks or gear, but THIS IS DIFFERENT, SHUT UP.]
no subject
[ There's a difference, after all. Not a huge one, but it's one Ange is definitely interested in.
.. though she does realise how it might come across, a stranger suddenly asking such a direct question. Especially when, as she now does realise while looking at the other up close, this girl seems to be blind. And it's not like Ange is entirely used to being tactful, but she at least does sometimes try to make an attempt.
This is one of those times. She shifts slightly, trying her best to shove her social awkwardness underneath her pokerface and relatively flat tone before she adds: ]
Sorry if this is all a little sudden. I'm kind of interested in this stuff, since I'm also studying magic.
no subject
It's fine, Hex has been helping me. It's easier than being blind was. And it's a broom! Although I guess I don't know what besom is, so it might be that too.
Back home? Uh... [ Akko leans back a bit and starts counting things on her fingers. ] I was really good at metamorphosis magic, and I was pretty good at repair magic after a while. Plus wands could just naturally cast levitation spells and illumination spells, so I could do those. Magic can do just about anything, but that's what I was practicing mostly. Why?
no subject
Eheh, sorry - for some reason my hearing is gone today. Don't worry, Hex has been helping me out. You can just talk like normal.
[ A wisp of smoke pours from Akko's chest and pools in her lap, forming into a black and silver koi fish that stares unblinkingly at Ochako for a few moments before "swimming" in lazy circles around Akko's waist. ]
Yes! I got my broom! Now we can both fly, haha! [ She lowers herself to the ground, carefully removing the basket as she does and holding it out to her friend. ] I have a delivery for you from that sweet old woman at the market. Perfect timing because I was just getting set to come visit soon.
no subject
Still- The memories of herself being just like this passed through her mind.]
You go tell them- I'm pretty sure they'll say you've earned it.
[She watches her bang her shin and can't help but wince a little. Jeez. Still she gives an approving smile and nod when Akko returns.]
I've got a chocolate chip in my bag. But I bet if we go take a look around I think we can get more of a variety.
no subject
It's a broom! It's just a more witchy name.
Oh, neat! Can't do that myself! Wands are more for apprentice witches before they learn to use their own magic. Me, I'm a human, not a witch, so I had to learn differently. Riding the staff is, well. Also different.
no subject
Hm...I guess it's probably blood magic. I couldn't make those kinds of colorful lights and images with any of the spells I knew before I came here. I have Paleblood, so I think that's what's letting me project what's in my head through my wand.
no subject
[ It's a lighthearted joke, said with a big smile and a little laugh. She doesn't actually mind the food in Trench, but her sweet tooth has been begging for some kind of decent baked goods for some time now.
Akko wipes the fishing net grime off of her hands and onto her pants, offering a small bow. ]
I'm Akko, by the way! Thanks for snagging me, I think I needed a break.
no subject
[ And wizards were just boys who did magic. It's an antiquated set of terms though, and Akko has never really distinguished much between the two. They did the same things after all, just under a different name. ]
How's it different? If you don't mind me asking.
no subject
[It was a whole thing with a witches' heart having a bile sac which was just...yeah. Information she could get into when Akko wasn't fighting to hear].
The staff? Oh, that's because it's actually a Palisman. Check this out!
[Luz landed on the ground and tapped the staff. The seemingly immobile owl on top of it then sprung to life, the staff part vanishing, and Owlbert, Eda's Palisman, hopped on Luz's shoulder and gave a friendly hoot].
See?
no subject
[ She startles as the owl animates, looking at it in wonder. It was just like puppet magic or animation spells back home!! She laughs and claps her hands, broom wobbling as she moves suddenly. In fact, she lowers herself to the ground with Luz (before she falls off.) ]
So cute!! Is it alive? Like really alive? Or is it magically animated? Does this little guy have a name?
no subject
Mmh...I'm really sorry that's happened to you, but it seems that sort of thing happens each month - weird things effect different people here. I think it has to do with out new blood types. the first month after I arrived, I was so sick and stuff just touching things or moving around much hurt. Bakugou, too, but he still managed to take care of me for most of it.
[Her smile returns, a soft look in her eye, then Ochako shakes her head and snaps back to reality. Stoooop that!! This is not time to be all mushy! She helps take the basket off the broom, smiles at Hex - who is actually the second floating fish she's seen - and idly thinks about...actually trying to contact hers. She never actually thought she needed it, Ochako's pretty self-sufficient, but all the people she knows has contacted theirs at least once. Even Deku and Bakugou have. And they are helpful in cases like this...hm.]
Ehehe, well...you can fly, I can only float, unless I've got my costume o--oh!! Oh, that nice granny from the market?! Uwaah, that's so sweet of her to do! Jeez, this is so much...I'll have to freeze a lot of it, or use it right away... If you want to come inside, we can have tea together or something, but don't let me keep you if you're working!! This actually save me a trip out, ehehe.
no subject
[It was actually pretty frightening].
No, he's alive! He turns into a staff to help me fly and cast spells actually! Though he technically isn't mine, he's pretty loyal to me. His name is Owlbert!
no subject
It makes her wonder for a moment whether this girl is maybe from the same world as her friend, but she doesn't bring it up. There's probably plenty of worlds out there where witches use wands, the multiverse is such a huge place.
Instead she says: ]
A great witch, huh?
[ There's something a little amused playing in Ange's voice as she says it, but it doesn't sound patronizing. Rather than laughing at the other girl, or thinking it ridiculous, Ange is just remembered of a very fond and warm memory. A young girl who told her the same thing, someone Ange dearly misses. ]
I'm a witch too, so I guess I could definitely share. [ Especially since their magic seems to be different, and their bloodtypes on top of it. The way those intermingle with their magic must make the differences between them even more varied. ] Though I wouldn't exactly call myself a great witch.
Glow in the Dark
It feels very ordinary, sitting in this little shop, sipping coffee. And watching a girl summon a very flashy lightshow. It's not music this time, but despite her best efforts to be grizzled and unaffected, she watches the whole thing rather intently anyway.
She nods over at Akko when she steps off the stage, not aware that she's blind. If it had been last month she might have left it at that, but for some reason, she decides to speak. ]
Was that blood magic?
no subject
I'll be okay, really! It's better than last week. I couldn't SEE last week. You wouldn't believe how many things I spilled in my kitchen. It's all cleaned up now, though.
[ Aw, she really does love Bakugou, huh? She gives a big smile as Ochako shakes the thoughts out of her head. There's no need for that - it's good to be in love - but Akko understands. ]
Tea would be great! It's not really my official "job" so I'm not really "working". Just doing what I can to help out. I guess it could be my job, though, huh? I'll have to look into that...
no subject
[ She turns to address Owlbert with a little friendly wave. She does not, noticeably, get any closer. She and birds have a bad rapport. they are pretty to look at but she has been pecked in the eye one too many times. Only once, but that was too many. ]
Hey there Owlbert! You're a handsome little guy. Thanks for helping out Luz!
no subject
[Also, technically the Boiling isles were not "her" world, but that was a discussion for another day. Owlbert, meanwhile, does hoot favorably toward Akko but respects her distance].
Oh, Owlbert's really great! I'm taking care of him until his person comes back for him! But right now, he's helping me and acting as my palisman!
no subject
[ And study and practice, but those are less exciting aspects of the process to Akko. ]
If you want, I'm sure I earned a couple cups of tea or cocoa with my show. We could sit down with some and talk about magic! Oh, and I'm Akko by the way. It's nice to meet you!
no subject
Ugh, sorry, having trouble seeing lately. I think it is, yeah! [ She says in Kainé's general direction. ] I'm still learning about how my blood changed my natural magical abilities, but I think in this case, it's my Paleblood letting me channel what's in my head and put it out in the world. I was never taught any illusions before coming here, anyway.
no subject
[ Is she wondering if she can learn more about palismans and maybe even get one? Maybe. You have no proof. ]
no subject
[Not if you didn't have Palestrom wood, which Luz knows is scarce even in the Boiling Isles].
no subject
But much more so than the name, what sticks with her much more is the other girl's relatively cheerful demeanour. There's something so spirited about the other girl, and almost naive as she says that believing in yourself is enough to make you a strong witch.
It's the sort of naivity that Ange doesn't look down on anymore though. Instead it makes her smile a little. ]
Sure, it's probably better to sit down. [ Just so they're not in everyone's way.. ] There's an empty table nearby. Is it okay if I take your hand for a moment?
[ To help guide her over, that is. Ange is the type who's kind of hesitant to too much physical contact, so she can't help but ask and make sure it's okay with the other first. ]
no subject
You couldn't see?! Akko-chan, I hope you called someone for help or something!! Even if it was temporary, that's really dangerous... [Though, looking at the Omen, it makes sense that it'd be there to help. Hm...yeah, Ochako definitely needs to try and commune with hers. It's been long enough, and her supposed bear Omen hasn't shown hide nor hair of itself since arriving in Trench.]
Mm, then you're like me. I don't really have a set job here, but doing things to help out while I'm shopping, or on patrol, makes me feel like I'm doing some basic Hero work, ehehe. And it does pay off sometimes, too!! Ne, come inside, come inside, I'll put a pot on!
[She opens up the back sliding door, hauls the laundry inside, and removes her outdoor shoes for a pair of slightly worn, but comfy slippers. The fireplace is going, too, so it's extra warm and cozy.]
no subject
Most people just do music at places like this... but I had a friend here that did magic over at the Red not long after we showed up.
[ She doesn't know why she's volunteering this information. Is this what normal people do? ]
no subject
[ Is that a cutesy way of saying Deer Country? No, it can't be - Luz said it was before here. Hm. ]
What's that? Or I guess where's that?
no subject
But I think there's only remains of that place now, in the edge of Trenchwood, I think.
no subject
[ Akko is indeed very cheerful, despite being far away from home, in a dangerous new world, and blind as a bat for no reason other than the moon said "screw you". In her mind, there's no reason NOT to be cheerful. She's making new friends, has a better handle on magic than ever before, doesn't need to worry about money or missing classes - it's a whole new world and it will be only as good as she makes it. ]
no subject
[ Akko would love to see more peoples' Omens, really. She's been told they're important representations of self - balancing forces, reflections of who you are, guardians and guides...it was really fascinating. Like a witch's familiar. Akko continues to talk as she follows Ochako inside, sliding off her shoes and leaving them by the door. She's wearing pink socks with little white hearts on them. Amazing. ]
Yeah! See, helping everyone is way better than being a one-trick pony, if you ask me. Besides, I don't know whether I'd want to focus on delivery work, repair work, or magic sho-
OH! That's right! Ochako-chan, I figured out my magic!
no subject
You know. [ Ange slowly speaks up once they're settled down, her tone still relatively even. It's hard to find much emotion in it, which probably doesn't help the lack of any visible facial expressions, given Akko's current state. ] You're handling all of this surprisingly well. I imagine most people would be freaking out if this was happening to them. But you're just out here performing magic and seemingly having fun.
no subject
[ She had only heard that it was a big venue and that people always wanted to perform there. That's why she'd chosen smaller venues for practice. If her year at Luna Nova taught her anything, it was the importance of patience and practice. She may not have liked it, but it was something she was working on.
Maybe she could learn from this person's friend - learn more about blood and how it manifests, how to use magic in general...if they're even still around. Trench seemed to lose its grip on people sometimes, from what she understood. ]
Who's your friend? Are they still in Trench?
no subject
And though Akko's socks are adorable, Ochako does provide a pair of slightly worn, but clean house slippers so she doesn't get them dirty. They had a bag of them at the marketplace for pretty cheap, probably cuz they're also...kind of cheap...but these are for guests!! The ones she has for herself and Bakugou are better quality, and nicer.]
Uwaah, really?! That sounds wonderful!! Can you show me? I still have a few more chores to do, but you saved me a lot of time bringing these over!! After I put them and the laundry away, I'm free for the rest of the day, really - I didn't make any plans. Oh, but if you're working... [She doesn't want to take up too much of Akko's time.]
no subject
[ It hurts remembering Sayo, just like it hurts remembering everybody that she's lost. She really felt like that girl understood her. She was a kindred soul in a lot of ways, no matter how different they were. As for this girl in front of her, she's different from Sayo in almost every way, but that magic display can't help bringing back the memories of her. That's just how memories are. ]
…No, she’s not. What she did wasn't even magic. She just did tricks to make it look like it was.
2
For me?
[He asks to clarify as she pulls out a small package and hands it on over. Granted, there's no one else in Trench who Maul could be mistaken for, so he's pretty sure he's the right person but it never hurts to ask.]
