[There really is no good segway to another subject so Jason just changes gears]

During my trip home, one of the first things that happened was we found out one of my team was infected by this alien parasite. They were hurt by sunlight so we whipped out a UV light and burned it out of her. She was pissed off, went chasing after it.

[It is a very broad summary, but it hits the highlights]

Alien parasite?

[hearuthinking]

I don't know what they were really called. They were these nasty parasites that infected other beings and turned them into vampires. Craving for blood, burned in sunlight, can be killed with a stake. We managed to get the fuckin' thing out of Rachel.

[He's quiet for a moment, growing somber] Joey and Clarice weren't so lucky.

[jedies]

I'm sorry to hear that. I have some experience with parasites, but they feared the cold more than anything else. Though I don't think they were fond of light either.

[hearuthinking]

Must be a parasite thing.

[He falls quiet again, finishing off his drink]

How long can you stay? I know you got other folks you wanna see.

[jedies]

I can stay for a while. Why?

[hearuthinking]

No reason. But we should probably find somewhere else to talk, unless you wanna get roped into kitchen duty by Abigail.

[jedies]

Well, no one wants me in the kitchen, certainly.

[hearuthinking]

[He lets out a little snort. Before he can think too much about it, he leans in and gives Obi-wan a kiss on the cheek. One step at a time. Trying so hard to act casual like it's no big deal]

Well, me bein' in the kitchen is a special occasion deal. Don't get too used to it.

[jedies]

I'll count my blessings.

[hearuthinking]

C'mon, smart-ass.

[The courtyard seems like a good place to go. Sitting under the tree is meant to be relaxing, and it's sort of like camping in that there are little animals and birds around]

[jedies]

[ it reminds him of the gardens in the temple. small areas where nature and people intersect. ]

This is a lovely place.

[hearuthinking]

I figured you'd like it. We can count this as our camping trip. It's a lot safer than finding a place out in the Trench.

[He sits them down at the trunk of the tree. Now that physical affection has been brought into the mix, Jason tries to make it very clear with how he sits that he's very much on board for more of that: oh so casually moving his hand close enough for Obi-wan to take and leaning toward him]

Were you that worried about safety?

[ which is fair, but interesting to note. ]

[hearuthinking]

Between you and me, we can handle danger. But I'd rather not get interrupted by that bullshit.

[jedies]

[ ah. obi-wan squeezes jason's hand. ]

That makes perfect sense.

[hearuthinking]

[It's a natural thing to squeeze back and lace their fingers together. There are still nervous butterflies going crazy inside him, but it's an excited kind of nervous. There's certainly safety in the fact that no corrupted Beasts are roaming around and the Sanctuary is a protected space, but for Jason it's more than that.

He feels safe in his heart-- safe to feel what he feels. It's a really nice feeling to have. Jason closes his eyes and takes a breath, leaning in enough to rest his head on Obi-wan's shoulder]

[ that's what matters. for obi-wan, it's just the simplicity of all of it. disconnected from his past, his life . . . a real connection he has forged in his place. and it matters. ]
