It can be. For some. I bet most people's lives in my time would seem charmed for someone from the 1400s. We don't have to farm our own food or hunt or cook. Most things are readily available in grocery stores, we drive cars everywhere so we don't have to walk. There aren't monsters stalking the streets at night, no vampires or demons or anything like that. Hell, those things don't even exist.

[ there's a touch of longing in her voice, gaze distant. ] It can be an easy life if you're lucky.

Luck does seem to play a large role. Which I think it is important to remember.

Those failings are not ours.

It's all about luck, isn't it? Life. Do you feel like you've been lucky in life, Alucard?

I had a childhood. At the very least, I can say that. I have known others who had none.

I guess I can see that as lucky. I lost mine pretty young, both times around.

Personally, I think having parents that love you is lucky. No matter how it ends up, there was someone in your corner fighting for you.

[ though parents can love and still inflict great harm. alucard still bears the scar of his father's love turned to violence. ]
