[He gives a soft sound of amusement. Yeah, that's what he thought.]
Not really. It won't exactly help anything at this point. There's no need to expend all of that energy.
[And put Dabi at risk, besides. Even though people come back here, he'd rather not see Dabi burn himself down to cinders. It'd be a waste.]
[One of the group huffs about the long walk back and Nara'a just turns to him with a mild expression.]
Would you like to walk back on your own? No? I thought not. Let's get going.
no subject
Didn't think so.
[dabi snorts at the retort towards the other hunter's gripe, and then turns to head back to the tangled path that led them here. the brambles and original vines and roots have already been cleared out from the way in, so at least the trek out won't be as difficult.]
Gonna be another three day trip... [complete with forest walking, camping out, night watches, and the rest.] You'd think they'd have those damn lanterns workin out here...
[But since they're far from Trench's borders, it's hoofing raw out here.]
no subject
[The Outpost still isn't either, but it's getting there. He sighs deeply and ignores the hunter's muttering about 'soft-hearted fools'. He knows that most of them don't like him since he drags Beasts to Sanctuary, but that's his decision and not theirs. His ears pull back as he hears a snap of a branch further off in the woods, which gets the hunters moving.]
[No one wants to stay here at night.]
The path back is still going to be rough, cleared out or no. There's plenty of monsters out there.
['You gonna drag them back, too?' Nara'a just turns and snarls at the hunter, who takes a step back. He huffs and turns back towards their destination, starting to walk. If the hunter wants to keep being an asshole, he can walk on his own. He doesn't need this guy.]
no subject
[thing is, the outpost is getting improved, fortified, and made ready to handle the traffic. though sarcastic as he is, dabi's aware of the foolishness of sticking a lantern out here in the middle of nowhere. besides, unless they need another mushroom, he doubts anyone's coming back.
yeah. that's him. nara'a, the soft-hearted fool who helps beasts and brings a bugge into town. when the hunter snaps off a shot at nara'a for wanting to rescue more beasts, dabi's charred lips twitch in an amused smirk. heh. hey, they're not wrong. he falls in step beside the miqo'te. ironic, considering the villain's reputation among the hunters for ruthless-but-effective work.]
Wonder if the lamp friends would work.
[they can transport to other lantern locations. that would leave the hunters behind, but hell if dabi cares. obviously.]
no subject
[There's no point to setting one out here anyway, other than immediate convenience. He sighs and ignores the other hunter staring at his back. He's really not in the mood... he's going to end up punching someone if the jabs continue.]
[The lamp friends...]
Maybe. Dunno, and it's risky to check. Much as someone is making me want to leave them out here...
no subject
[he has no concern for people who foolishly endanger themselves and then even more idiotically expect others to help them out of the resulting mess. kind of like the one that's still glaring daggers in nara'a's back.
dabi slips his hands into his pockets, attention forward as the rest of the party fall into step behind them.]
Guess we're walkin then.
[that comment about leaving a certain someone earns a brief scoff and he leans into the breeze ghosting towards them. of course the other guy's not done yet, griping about how nara'a's willing to bring a beast into their city but is now "threatening" to leave a local behind. the irony, right? save something that would have no qualm over destroying property and killing people, but getting all huffy over someone pointing out the harsh truth. right, real heroic mindset there. beast-loving people-hater.
no surprise, since he's apparently half beast himself.]
no subject
[Even as he is right now, he's still got a core of caring about people at the end of it all. He sighs a little bit and squares his shoulders. The people here are getting on his nerves and he doesn't want to deal with them. He just wants to go back home.]
[Whichever one that happens to be.]
You've never been this far out before, have you?
[He wouldn't put it past Dabi, but he's not sure. It's dangerous to be out this far.]
no subject
[like sticking your nose in other people's business. it's not your business, but you make it your business through choice and action. dabi's aware of nara'a's almost pathological need to help people. heroes usually have that complex, driven by one reason or another.
he glances to the side when more of those words and jeers come from the dissatisfied hunter behind them.]
Urusei, noisy bastard. Ya startin to piss me off.
[the delivery of his voice is the same calm, nonchalant tone he always takes, but two of the other hunters immediately look to the vocal one with concern and tell him to back off. dabi's not afraid to kill them.]
Nah, I stick to the beaches if I'm goin real far out.
[otherwise, there'd be a lot more raging blue forest fires, cause he's not one for risking his skin for other people.]
no subject
[He's not seen that many forest fires (lately) so he's got reason to believe Dabi's at least kept out of there.]
I try to be nice, but even I have a limit.
[He mentions it nonchalantly, and the hunters fall another step behind the pair. None of them relaly want to make Sleepers angry, considering their relative power levels.]
I'd explore more, but there's only so much I can do on my own. I tried asking the leader of the last expedition if he was thinking of another one, but he said no.
[Maybe he should just gather his own party? But it really is starting to get cold out...]
no subject
You could try bein a little meaner sometimes. Ya nice enough to make someone retch. [how about you not interfere with his goading of the belligerent man so he could burn him up, nara'a? unfortunately, seems the message got through and the idiot's not bothering them anymore. tsk, damn.]
Ain't surprisin. If there was a grove of these mushrooms, they wouldn't have sent out multiple parties. [general expeditions aren't something sleepers regularly put together anyways. too much of a risk for currently too little reward.]
no subject
[Much as he likes a good fight, he really shouldn't pick one without good reason... tempting as it is.]
Yeah, exactly. And... well. I don't really care about the pthumerians that much, but getting in good with them might not be the worst idea.
[It'd at least let him see what they were really about a bit more clearly...]
no subject
[Dabi doesn't have such faith in people. He's more than willing to pick a fight and kill with little reason, though he's not insane enough to go after people he knows would stop him.]
I'm only helpin out cause they started offerin some interestin rewards. [And after looting their dead members, he got an extra one or two for his troubles.] But can't say it doesn't shake up some boredom.
[Once there's a more clear-cut way of getting home, he'll pay more attention to the "gods" that control said way. Likely to try and remove them.]
no subject
[He doesn't want to hurt people... but there's a part of him that keeps whispering for him to do it. It's been getting louder lately, though.]
It does. Though we don't get to travel far enough on these sorts of adventures. I want to see the world, not just this corner of it.
no subject
and far be it from dabi to prevent the man from listening to that whisper.]
Dunno if there's more than this corner of it. For all we know, we're on an island. Can't get "around" in a boat cause of the monsters. Can't get through the forest for the same reason.
no subject
[It bothers him on both an academic and adventuring level. How's he going to have grand adventures if he's stuck in what's basically a backyard?]
We'll have to figure something out. You don't like being stuck in one place all the time either, do you?
no subject
[not that dabi really cares; he's just playing devil's advocate for the sake of passing time as they trudge through the gloomy forest. and he'd probably answer that unspoken question with the silent reminder this "backyard" likes to try and torment or kill them every damn month.
there's your adventure.]
Depends on the place. I ain't died of boredom here yet.
no subject
[Yeah but it's small, he's used to large areas to explore.]
Just you wait, you'll have your chance. One day Trench will let up for two seconds and you'll wish it didn't.
no subject
[his tone doesn't bother hiding the cheeky smirk on his face. anything to poke at a hero.
aww, ya wanna die in a big open spot instead of a small one. guess that makes sense.]
Ya don't know me very well if you think that...
[also depends on "how" it lets up for those two seconds.]
no subject
[Yeah, yeah, laugh it up.]
You'll be waiting for it to drop something horrible and you know it. Paranoia's not exactly fun.
no subject
[he will, at every chance he can get. it's his entertainment.]
But it's a great way to survive. Bravery is often the leadin cause of injury or death.
