open to all kinds of dating shenanigans it can be a whole mess

[vi didn't exactly sign up for this, but maybe she did, just a little bit. she did wander in, and she did take a seat on a very comfortable oversized chair, prop her feet up, and ask for some snacks. (wait, this isn't a party? it looks like a party.)

wait, there are rules to this thing? it's an organized meet and greet with questions? you get a shock if you don't answer with the unfiltered truth? aww, man, this is like that golden bracelet thing with an unhelpful side of the awkward river of terrible truths, sans blood and corpses, so that's a win. there are snacks after, right?

she has yet to realize it's for dating.

the snacks have yet to come, but she was given a sticker, which she slapped on without reading. (name: see face for reference cool trench, cool. thanks for that.) the blurb that appears on any nearby omni isn't any less of a joke.4, even if it's still true. whatever, she may as well have fun with this.]

Who needs nametags when you can tattoo your name on your face to remember? Great if you love to be worried. Still thinks blocking punches means using your face. Human garbage disposal. ( jinx can be seen somewhere in the crowd. actually, it's really hard to miss the girl with her bright blue long hair and in pigtails. and it becomes even harder to miss when she is strutting to her older sibling -- approaching the table vi is sitting at. with a harsh grab of the chair, she twirls it around backwards before popping a squat. there's a grin on her face with one arm drape over the top rail; the other preoccupied to pull out a joint she got from peter.

the girl sticks it between her lips before speaking -- mildly muffled:)

Heard the latest buzz around here?

( before she lights the thing, she quirks up a playful eyebrow to vi as she elaborates further. )

They say if you lie, you'll get a few shocks.

( and at the word "shocks", jinx pretends she is getting electrocuted by jokingly jerking her body around. she settles back down though -- lifting up her index to spark the end of the joint so she can take that nice slow drag. )

[she smiles and rolls her eyes as jinx twirls that chair and takes a seat, her gaze falling on the joint. are they handing out those here, too? why is she missing everything?]

Yup. The buzzing's not as loud as the shouts. Guess a lot of people are more comfortable taking a hit than just saying whats on their mind.

[she gets it. but a month of unfiltered honesty courtesy of a cursed artifact she carried around in her pocket for luck, and a couple of willing run ins (the bracelet) and one unwilling one (the boat), with forced sharing and all those memory shares have really taken the sting out - and that's not counting the bond, and the face-branding extravaganza with viktor her first couple days in the city. so she's pretty relaxed, and jinx can feel that - not as relaxed as she could be, but that's fine.]

Who knows, maybe some of 'em like it.

[is she looking at you, jinx? yes. yes she is.]

[ The (usually) elegant Beatrice appears to slide into the seat opposite Vi, all smiles in her long dress and with her golden hair. Those big, blue eyes get fluttered at the woman across from her whilst the pipe she is practically never seen without is lifted to her lips. Puff. ]

Vi! I haven't seen you for months. When you were playing at being a little kitty, wasn't it?

[ Oh, she sounds amused by that memory. ]

( the calming presence is very much appreciated. especially when, well, she was extremely pissed when she woke up here. and her name tag (still trying to hide it), the "P" and a "r" are peeking through the chair's railings. anyhow, the baby sister holds in the smoke briefly as vi talks -- exhaling out the vapor but through the corner of her mouth. hey, at least she isn't blowing it at someone's face like she usually does. but then again, vi is special so she doesn't deserve that sort of treatment.

jinx offers the joint for vi to bum off if she wishes, still grinning with teeth showing this time. even if the chance her sibling declines the share, there's a very slow sensation breeze-like draft curling around vi's forehead and temples. )

Gotta get off somehow, right?

( that's way too much information to share with a family member, but it's better than the alternative of her being a shut-in. in all retrospect, it's amazing how much their relationship changed since september. )

[she doesn't remember the pipe. she sure remembers that bit of flirting and playing at cat behavior, because by the next morning, she'd become a batcat, no need for a mask, or a try at a meow. all she'd been able to do was meow.]

Iiiiiit's been a minute, hasn't it? Funny story about that night. Meant to ask you about it, but my hunch was bullshit, I think.

[it's not a bad memory at all. not even the cat part. 95% less anxiety inducing than being a murder horse. but her attention's on the smoke. no, her eyes. no, the curve of her neck. heh, her eyes are up there, violet. yes, back to her eyes with a little laugh.]

You wouldn't have had anything to do with that play becoming real, would you?

[she's not even mad. but she suspected it at first.]

Oooh? A question?

[ Beatrice leans forward, and grins, her eyes focused in sharply on Vi. Beato is examining her without much care or concern for whether Vi notices the piercing gaze. ]

Oh, no. No, I'm afraid not. I didn't have a thing to do with that, unless playing along with you was the cause?

[ .. oh.

Now this is awkward, isn't it. Not that Chizuru intended to end up here with Vi, or to.. end up with this speed dating thing at all, but it sure is awkward when you're suddenly sitting there with your girlfriend's sister. I-Is friendship speed dating a thing? Is that how speed dating works? Someone explain these modern concepts to her?!

Except Chizuru is so desperate for a distraction from the awkwardness that she immediately looks at her Omni when she hears it ping, witnessing Vi's blurb, not realising it's sent one of her own over to Vi at the same time.

And before she realises what she's doing, she's already blurting out: ]

Literally became a horse?!

[ Sharon drops into the seat opposite of Vi, still wearing her bloodied hunting leathers but she's peeled off the gloves and stuffed them in one of the many pouches on her waist. She's visibly tense but appears to ease up in front of Vi, her relief palpable. She's got five or six nametags stuck to her chest but only the names SHARON and ALESSA are wholly visible. ]

Fancy meeting you here. [ There's a lazy flirtatiousness to her drawl as she draws her omni up to take a peek at the blurb. She laughs out loud, her poor attempt at being flirty escaping out an open window. Her blurb isn't as nearly as interesting. ] Human garbage disposal, huh?

[she takes in the names, but doesn't ask - the whole i split my soul covers it in some way, and why ask tough questions no one wants to talk about if trench doesn't require it? she's going to take a look at sharon's profile while her own is getting scanned (she still can't read it, but she's gotten a few hints.)]

Oh, really? It went there? I mean ....it's not wrong. I did eat a Christmas ornament on a dare.

[not a lie. but she blows out a breath at sharon's profile. it's witty, but it's kind of serious and it explains a lot.]

According to this, you could be my savior. Which ...hey, might be onto something. You saved me from getting someone shitty.

[oh, hey, chizuru. yeah, friendship speed dating can be a thing. she's been mostly doing that her whole run in trench, when it's not complicated by supernatural auras or mixed signals.]

Yup. Remember the whole thing with the facepainting and the masks? I was trying to impress a certain nightmare, and uh, well, the mask gave me an unwanted assist. [sarcasm:] It was super helpful.

But whatever, it was only a few days. And it worked out in the end. Guess we're both trouble magnets, yeah?

[ a wink like there's an inside joke. there is. it's not only the profile, it's jinx. but since chizuru's in the hot seat:]

Everything going okay with my sister?

[super casual, playing it cool. just a normal question.]

A goddamn Christmas ornament? [ Wow, okay, she thought maybe Vi ate everything she got her hands on, good or bad, but Christmas ornaments? ] Please tell me it was plastic. [ Not that that helps.

When Vi reads her profile, Sharon leans back into her seat, tense for just a breath. She doesn't even flinch at that word savior. ] See, and I kind of thought you were my savior. If I had to see another asshole stranger, I was going to let this place shock me to death.

[ Maybe Chizuru should have expected the profile callout in return for her own, huh.. B-But to be fair, in her case she was just really surprised by what she read!

And she doesn't even have the time here to wrap her mind around said surprise. Apparently the thought of Vi as a horse.. or a halfhorse, or a horse girl, or whatever else has to be shoved to the back of Chizuru's mind for a moment so there's enough brain capacity freed up to actually answer the other. ]

Huh?

[ A very intelligent initial answer, clearly, and it's only after blinking a few times that Chizuru seems to realise what Vi is asking her here. ]

O-Oh! Um.. Yes, I think..? I think I'm still figuring out this dating thing a little bit, but it's-- it's not bad.

[ That's not a lie, so Chizuru isn't even getting shocked! What a good girl. ]

I hope I'm making her happy, despite everything else that's happening to her... [ You know. Getting frozen. Other general Trench stuff. ]

[vi's face. does a thing, and it might be a bit of a greenish tinged blush, but hey, she did open up that topic, didn't she? so, she just laughs (and yes, she definitely bums that joint) it's an awkward laugh, but it's still a funny thought.]

Well, if they do then hats off to them for speeding up the already speedy dating. Which, uh, I didn't sign up for, and I'm gonna guess you didn't either.

[eyeroll.]

I see they "had fun" with your nametag, too. Get a load of this shit. [she points to her own.] Ha, ha. Bet it took 'em all day to come up with that. They like the low hanging fruit sometimes. [a shrug of don't let it get to ya.]

[she hadn't thought about it in the oops that's a question you have to answer truthfully sense - which means she should be more careful about what she asks. the sharpness of that gaze has a real element of danger - it's playful danger, but it's real - and it reminds her a little of her sister. being in the hot seat is ...something.]

H-heh. Yup, that was a question. That I didn't think about before I just asked. Bad habit with me, the mouth just goes.

Cool, even if you did there wouldn't have been any hard feelings, it was a pretty fun time. I thought maybe it was a spell or a curse or something, but it happened twice and to a whole bunch of people.

[she also thought she'd done it with her cursed paint, but that wasn't the truth of it either.]

It was a dare. [isn't that like. the point of dares? of course, the idea that she could just ignore the dare hadn't come up, and she'd halfway dared herself, anyway - it's her own fault for showing off in front of her sister and the network.] I dunno. Guess I've gotta eat something plastic and see if it rings any bells.

[she laughs at her own joke, sharon! she knows only a little about the holiday, but there were bells! her dorky smile is pure get it? bells?] It wasn't a bell, though, it was a little cookie man, but painted up horror movie style. And I didn't chew it, just washed it down with some beer.

No death, and no more shocks, it's not allowed. See? Maybe I am your savior. So, while we're doing twenty questions, how about this one: what's some cool music?

[see? this doesn't have to suck.]

[vi grins at the mental whiplash - she's used to it with chizuru, and it's endearing, yeah, but maybe she should give the other a break with the fast-volley questions, or at least keep them more casual? but then the girl starts to answer, and vi can't help but grin - it's earnest, she's happy to hear that chizuru seems as smitten by jinx as jinx is by her.

vi ought to know, she can feel it, sometimes, but as far as intrusive feelings go? it's not bad. way better than murder the cupcake, or let's blow up the fucking sun, and especially the self-loathing, sad thoughts that plagued her baby sister. (it's also way less annoying than the effect of d's aura, even if it still sometimes skirts the horny jail territory.) okay, great. now she's starting to get blushy in the face.]

You make her super happy. Like, happy in a way I'd never thought I'd see. Or feel. [should she not have mentioned that she can feel it? is that too awkward? oh well, there's no going back.] You know about the bond, so yeah, I know how happy she is.

And she's figuring the whole dating thing out, too, despite how cocky she likes to sound sometimes. I think you're really good for her.

( her cheerfulness slowly subsides as she goes into the topic of their nametags. there's a small smile (and i mean, small) for a moment, but she then folds her arms over the top railing to rest her head on. jinx can feel the reassurance of her sister and well, it's easier said than done. )

But yours is actually kinda funny. Mine is just... — ( she pauses then a sigh. ) — It's like I'm being forced all over again. I just wanna be me.

(as she rubs her face along her arm, there's something... strange happening on the top of her head. if vi looks closer, it's as if something is wiggling underneath her hair. how strange. what in the world could it be? well, in a few seconds, that question will get answered. because in those seconds, two cat ears peak straight up through her locks. but that's not the only thing, as there's a blue tail swaying around from behind her. it seems her baby sister ate another chocolate beforehand and is being transformed without realizing. )

[ Sharon cannot help but roll her eyes the moment Vi laughs at her own joke, pure dork, a laugh bubbling out from her own lips. It feels good to be around someone so goddamn chill; someone she doesn't have to put shields up around. Sharon leans forward into the table. ] All hail my savior. [ She says with a tilted grin before she focuses on the question. Music, huh? ]

I was one of the losers back home, might not be the best person to ask about 'cool' music, but I'm a rock girlie. I can't get enough of shit like Nine Inch Nails and Chevelle and Yamaoka & McGlynn. There is this one singer I got into here, though: Meg Myers. Her shit's pretty cool.

Oh, no. Don't apologize. I find it charming, to tell the truth.

[ Beatrice smiles. Unfortunately for Vi, Beatrice is very pretty and also just as whacked out as hersister, if in slightly different ways. She takes a puff on her pipe, eyes half-closing as if she were herself a particularly lazy and content cat. Her eyes don't leave Vi. ]

It might have something to do with the Pthumerians, but not me. I haven't really turned anyone into anything lately--though maybe I should just to keep people on their toes. What do you think?

You are you. That's just a piece of... [is it paper?] ...weird paper that won't come off.

[she moves to hand that joint back and she's about to suggest that maybe jinx try scribbling over the nametag with something, but her eyes are drawn to the rapid emergence of a pair of cat ears. vi blinks, tilting her head and peering from the joint to jinx and back again.]

Uh. Is that just weed?

[and there's the tail. maybe she spoke too soon and jinx is absolutely not herself. vi readies herself for the full transformation, her face slightly panicked.]

( what a weird question to ask. she lifts up her head with right cat ear doing a twitch to listen closely. )

Yyeaaah? Why would it be anythin' else? Look, I know we're suppose to be asking each other questions, but that sucked.

( vi could really come up with something better than that. she is a tough girl and can handle a few tough questions. )

[well, then she can keep telling the truth, right? she sure can, and she's staring down the barrel of that loaded gaze - smiling into it like heyyyy, because this is what she does.]

Might be fun. Depends what you turn 'em into, and for how long. I like being on my toes.

But maybe leave out the part with the anxiety. It was a blood effect, and it was a bad fit with being a nightmare. Nightmare steed, that is. it kinda goes against their whole everything.

[she asks her omni to add all those artists to her list, because she's always looking for new music, if not to dance to, to train to, silent disco, or just to listen.]

Guess I'm kind of a rock girlie, too. Robby and I traded some metal a while back and that was cool. But I'm always down for new stuff, especially to play in the shop. Sometimes the music helps people get over their nerves.

[she's glad they can laugh through this - it's much better than shitty boat blood river disaster by way of ravens. having fun instead of being in a forced truth quandary? well, it feels like a fuck you right to the pthumerians, and it's a good fuck you.]

[When he saw on the omni who his next "partner" would be, he couldn't help but laugh. It really makes him feel better about his own profile.]
