[ Daniel gets up, moving to instead sit down on the armrest of the seat Robby is sitting on - mostly so he can reach out and wrap an arm around the boy's shoulders, lightly pulling him sideways until Robby is leaning against him, his hand on the boy's other shoulder gently rubbing against his shirt.
It won't help this pain, sure, but Daniel has always been bad at just watching people hurt and doing absolutely nothing. At least doing this feels better than nothing.
.. especially when he knows no words will help this. Robby's grief may be a very different kind than Daniel's own, complicated in different ways, but Daniel knows just how persistent that emotion can be, how nothing anyone can say could make it vanish.
