They do. Language is a tricky thing... it can help or harm people. But it's interesting that you say you guide people... does that mean your Sleeper does, too?

[ The Omen easily nods. Yes, this conversation matters a lot to him. There's a reason why he went to seek out Taro after not having seen the other in such a while, after all.

Checking up on people is important. ]

My Sleeper is a teacher. He likes helping guide young ones, because the same was done for him when he was much younger.

I look out for everyone.

Ah. A teacher. I was in school sometimes... I preferred staying out of it. I felt I learned more out of it.

[Maybe not that kind of teacher?]

Not a school teacher.

[ At least the Omen does bother to correct the other's assumption. Maybe it's since said assumption was born out of the way the puppy worded it in the first place, and the creature wiggles in Taro's grip a little as it corrects itself. ]

Martial arts. Karate. Sometimes you can learn more from those things than from school. [ He's not even saying it to promote karate, or anything.. It's more just that the Omen is agreeing with Taro.

There are some things you simply can't learn in school, even if you do learn useful things there too. ]

Oh, right, the dojo. Where I first met you.

[Well, the kitchen. But still. He's at least pretty sure he knows where they're going now - a place he'd stayed away from due to the high traffic and then later because of some 'disaster' that happened there. He nods at the statement.]

I suppose, for some people. It's... not a thing that I want to get into. Something more for kids who watch too many action movies than for me.

[Taro, you mainline Bond movies.]

[ Thankfully the creature isn't very offended at the last part..

Sure, it does bother to speak out loud to correct it, but there's nothing angry about it. It's still just calm. ]

There is more to it. Balance. In life.

[ The Omen pauses for a moment, wags his tail, and then continues. ]

But it is not for everyone. There are those who may want to pursue other things. I understand. Still, I like spending time there and watching the kids. I am the official dojo mascot.

I'm not really into fighting. Balance is important but it's... I dunno. I prefer to have fun in life. Not hold myself back. You never know when you're going to go.

[He only knew because he suspected he was angering people, and even then he didn't know exactly when.]

I'm usually... out at clubs at night, honestly. Not drinking too much, but if I tried to go for 'balance' I'd just keep myself from having fun.

You think balance is the opposite of fun?

[ Have a curious-sounding question from the Omen, Taro! There's nothing suggesting its own opinion in its tone. It's still just instead clinging to Taro, the creature's tail wagging a little as it waits for an answer. ]

Well it's about moderation, yeah? I prefer excess. It's more fun. Maybe I'm more tolerant to some of that stuff because I'm a tanuki, but I don't know.

I just try to do what feels good... preventing yourself from doing something fun is nonsensical.

[ Well, it's not like it being about moderation is necessarily untrue, so the Omen can't say much to that. It just seems to quietly contemplate those words as it still rests in the other's arms. ]

I see.

[ .. apparently that's what it finally says after those moments of quiet, yet deep contemplation..

Though it's thankfully not the only thing, since it also adds after another moment: ]

I feel like I am learning much about you today.

Uh... huh.

[He pats the fluffy omen.]

I don't talk about myself to many people, you know. I'm trusting you.

... Not that I think you likely talk to that many people anyway.

You would be surprised.

[ As to how many people it talks to.. Though it's hard to gauge whether the Omen is just joking around or being for real, especially when its little tail is still wagging so happily.

But at least it definitely is serious when it moves on to continue with: ]

But I will keep everything you tell me a secret. Just like I promised. I have not told my Sleeper.

[He huffs in amusement.]

Maybe I would be. But thank you.

[He turns a corner and walks a little bit longer, falling silent. ... Hm.]

You're a good pup. I don't... really want to be open in a lot of ways. It's too easy to be hurt. And I've... I'm just done with that, in a lot of ways. I did my best to do my part and got killed for it. I just... I'm tired.

[ .. killed for it, huh. There's no doubt that Taro has been through some stuff with the way he speaks, or with some of the stuff he mentioned, but this is a new extreme to the Omen.

Not that he comments on it. It's just something he silently notes, something he takes more seriously than his goofy cute little puppy exterior might show. ]

Being a good pup is my job.

[ Okay. Maybe that does sound a little too serious for a little puppy to say, especially in that calm tone.. Though stating it so explicitly is kind of goofy in its own way, like it's a solemn vow. ]

Whenever you need a good pup, I can be there. It is easy to get tired by yourself. Sharing may be scary, but it brings relief too.

And I am not dangerous. [ Just look at that cute little puppy snoot, Taro. Would that ever hurt you? ]

[He snortlaughs at that - it's pretty ridiculous for the pup to say outright.]

Yeah, okay. I'll keep you in mind. Hoshi can probably find you if we need anything. And... I've got someone I can share with, though she's... honestly too young to be dealing with this shit.

Then again I don't know how old you or your Sleeper are, you could be too young for this too.

[Cute can be dangerous. He's fully aware of that, so he doesn't comment on that last bit. He's not so sure.]

[Besides, information can cut even deeper than claws sometimes.]

I am very old. I am an ancient being.

[ .. it's so hard to tell whether or not the creature is being serious about this.. It's hard to tell when the dog sounds serious about everything it says, despite the fact that it just looks like a cute puppy.

Who is definitely still wagging his tail, even now. ]

So you do not need to worry. I am even older than my Sleeper is, and today's youth would consider him an old man already.
