[ A confusing statement is worth a confusing stare. How... has she not met her omen yet? Light doesn't always have his around in public, but he's present enough when at home. ]

[ makima responds with calm, ruffling one of her dog’s malleable, pointed ears before inviting light to walk with her. some of the pups are beginning to whine impatiently, no matter how well behaved they are— huskies, even, need to have a great deal of exercise. ]

There’s nothing wrong. We’ve both been very busy since day one. [ she’s not lying about that, at least. omens are extensions. omens are the very best parts of you, or sometimes the worst parts. makima has lived the life of a prestigious woman of business. time was such a short-lived thing that she’d become a rumor to greenhorns in public safety— and then a walking myth when she finally joined them for one fateful happy hour. ] Perhaps I just need to find some time to settle down and see if our schedules align.

[ Though he's started a few things of his own here in this world, Light isn't too pressed for time at the moment so even if his plan hadn't been to go dog walking, he falls into step beside them. ]

After all of this time, it may pretend to have a full calender.

[ Picking up on the joke, he rolls with the humor behind it. Light doesn't bring his own omen out very often. ]

I'm surprised it didn't take the shape of a dog, but I assume it would be among them if it had.

[ only people stuck in an office would understand! light gets it. as for the guess at her omen being a dog— that might’ve even worked. ]

Hmm . . . Perhaps, [ she loves huskies for their energy, loyalty and beauty (if seven of them didn’t speak loud enough). but if they’re talking about a breed that would suit her, personally? ] a Malinois.

Why a Malinois? I know what the breed looks like, but you're more of an expert in dogs than I am.

They’re a flexible breed. Strong loyal tendency, high prey drive, extremely territorial— but they have a strong work ethic. Professional, but a great family companion off the job.

It may be new, but it might be more expected than you think.

Huskies . . . [ hmm. she looks down at her leashed companions, ever glad to keep walking. ] They're a spirited breed. Athletic, playful, clever, affectionate— even toward strangers.

But they've got an independent temperament. Training them are a challenge, so an owner needs to gain their full respect at a young age.

[ Light nods. He really isn't all that knowledgeable about dogs. He knows as much as the next person, but even he has a limit to how much he can study something that isn't likely to become important in his life. ]

I can see you as a mixture of the two. You're professional, but there's a secret side to you that likes to play. It's easy to miss if they take you too seriously.

Since you know so much about dogs, what breed would best fit me?

Active, curious, intelligent, and a little stubborn. But they're good watch dogs, and have a history of being used for hunting vermin. Whether that's accurate or not . . . [she pockets her omni and puts her hands behind her back as they continue their walk. ] I'd still like to learn more about you.

You might have missed your calling in the dog world, but I hope I can live up to those expectations. There's only one thing I think is off: sometimes I can be more than a little stubborn.
