"...truth be told, I've not put him away since I've been here. I quite like him."

"Boof," agrees the dog, from under the table.

"According to him, he's only here because I am, so I imagine an 'omen' must simply be...a manifestation of a certain something extra, something that suits each person individually," Break continues, sitting back in his chair. "One of my young companions is in possession of a fluffy kitty cat of an omen who likes to scream at me for attention each morning. Fitting for a kid who's spent a reasonable portion of his brat years yelling along at my heels, right? Since that's the case, I imagine if my own hadn't had an opportunity to rescue me from mortal danger, he'd have introduced himself by way of stealing the best armchair in the parlor and refusing to be moved."

What he's not saying is that the omens remind him of Chains in a way, monsters from his own world with a penchant for making contracts with humans and then living in their souls for a time. A Contractor always attracts the Chain that suits them best, when such an opportunity arises, and the omens he's met so far are all equally distinct. Break isn't especially of a mind to explain such a concept to a complete stranger, however. That topic brings with it a dozen ways to make this guy's lunch incredibly depressing.
