He'd had no idea how Obi-Wan had actually reacted to his gift and had never bothered to ask, afraid that he wouldn't like the answer. To know the Jedi had appreciated a reminder of his old master enough to display it made Maul feel like he'd done something right for once in their complicated relationship.
