[Reaper had taken his time with recovery, which left him trapped in his room for a few days. When it seemed that he could get around without having long episodes of shortness of breath, he appeared more downstairs. That's where he happened to be, settled into a chair with the other occupants of the house.

He knew they had questions, knew that most of them would have to do with Lance's outburst on the network. That wasn't the kid's fault; they didn't always control their Omens. And Lance had been circling the drain for years now, barely holding on. Not the kid's fault. For as long as he had known Lance, the kid had been teetering on the edge of a mental crisis.

However, this wasn't about Lance right now. This was about the household where he resided, and many of the youngsters who lived in it. As the eldest, he knew that his position here was the most tenuous.

So Reaper sat quietly, one ankle crossed over his other knee. He remained in comfortable black clothing, and while situations like these usually had him wearing his mask, he had decided against it. Instead, his scarred face was bare, though he kept his hood up to cover most of his white hair. His gloved hands were folded in his lap, thumbs clasping the mask that he would normally wear. Instead, it lightly tapped against his thigh.]

So, I suppose we should call this meeting to order, hmm?

[Luz wasn't sure what to say to this, because she felt like she might still be wondering about that herself. It wasn't like Deerington hadn't had an effect on her after all, and considering everything that happened, he might have a point].

Maybe we all have to find that at some point then.

Pushing the boundaries of our knowledge of ourselves and this place could allow for meaningful changes.

[Reaper, being the cynic that he was, expected that the more knowledge, the more that someone would weaponize it or use it against the rest of them. It just meant they needed more knowledge to combat such individuals.]

[It was actually a triathlon for kids, but Luca doesn't know how long a full length one would be. Also, adrenaline.]

Oh, yeah. Believe me, sheer terror definitely made a huge difference. And yeah, dodging I can do.

[After all, look at him! He doesn't have a single harpoon scar!]

Well sure, but the question most of us have to deal with is how we're going to do that. Do we study the books? Try to talk to the Pthumerians? Try to reach the unexplored places not mapped? There seems like a bunch of ways to try and get that knowledge, it's hard to figure the best way.

You can do any and all of those things. You can do none of them and think of something no one has attempted before.

[The New World was their oyster, as the saying went.]

[Well, he was going to have to set up a training protocol based specifically in not getting hit. He would likely do that over some form of cooking.]

[That was an open-ended answer...but then, it was an open-ended question too, wasn't it? The moment each of them made the decision to live in Trench, that was a choice to live in a world where the danger would still be, but you'd be with the people you made the connection to in Deerington.

Meanwhile, new people would arrive, and this world became THEIR first Deerington, and even still, there was the unseen knowledge begging to be sought out.

Luz had taken steps herself, hadn't she, in learning how far she could go here? That there was an unseen world where she could explore what these new abilities meant, and how they related to her own magic]?

Well. It worked in the Boiling Isles. Why not here?

Okay, I can't really disagree with that.

[Fern makes sure he goes to sleep, that's a herculean effort all in itself. ]

Oh I know. Moira was the same. I'd bring her food and she'd make a point of throwing it in the garbage while staring me in the eye.

[He smirked and stroked blackened fingers over his goatee.]

She stopped when I picked her up and took her to the soldier's mess hall and made her sit with us. It only took three occasions.

[He wasn't about to stop someone's attempt at innovation and reconciliation of information that they had however they wanted. Creativity and knowledge went hand-in-hand after all, and Blackwatch operated under the idea that anything could be done with the right minds looking at the problem.

Pushing boundaries was a necessary risk as far as he was concerned.]

Exactly. The only thing holding someone back is motivation and sheer guile.

[Luz hadn't gotten as far as she had by staying dormant, and she saw no reason why she should do that here. There was still a lot she had to explore, between all of the different people she'd met and what magic she still had to explore.

And maybe this was something she and Reaver saw eye to eye on here].

I agree with that. So. I hope whatever happens now, if you're a part of this household, we try to look out for each other when we can. If you're mostly smoke while I'm around, that's your choice, but I wouldn't mind getting to know you more.

Yes. If. Time will tell how that all shakes down. There are still more questions to be asked, I assume.

[And in the end, Reaper had been asked to leave the house, and he had complied.]

[He still doesn't know how well he'll do, but he at least feels more confident knowing the plan will likely involve more being fast and agile than being strong.]

Sure, of course. I asked what I wanted to ask anyway.

[Luz wouldn't be thrilled by the end decision, but she would stand by the choice the house made.

Oh wow! That's a whole new level of spite! At least I do eat what's brought to me.

[Mostly. He still needs to be reminded about it, but he still eats it!]

Fern's good at that one. Luz too. They like to make sure I...uh. Eat meals. With people. For some reason.

[Probably due to the being needed to be reminded to eat thing, Varian.]

Oh it was, and I enjoyed every moment of it. [He smirked at the memory then went serious again.] Is that so? The last time I brought you a simple sandwich, I had to sit down and stare at you until you ate it.

[He knew the need for investment in one's work, but Reaper also knew the best way for results was either staring or knocking things off a table to smash on the floor. He and Varian thankfully hadn't reached smashing stuff stage.]

Yes well, next time I make dinner, I'm just carrying you up to the table. Good luck fighting me, pool noodle.

But I still ate it!! Eventually!!

[The smashing stage would sure make a whole lot of something happen. Probably yelling. Mostly yelling. ]

Pfffft, I think I could get away if I really wanted to.

[He was more bemused than anything. He knew Varian wouldn't change, but it was more about management.]
