[ through the second door, she goes. it's like a dream. it is a dream. there are people she knows. she thinks she could see their faces better, and distinguish their features more than she ever could. there were still scents that allowed her to direct herself the best— her hair is cut shorter, the faces smile at her, and she smiles at them in the way she knows how. it's always been missing, but somehow, it feels whole. these people embrace her, live with her, and treat her in the way she's always wished to find: equally.

for once more in quite a while, makima leaves the doorframe with thin tears staining pale peach skin and a melancholy gaze that seems so tired of yearning . . .
