( they were having a little storm tonight. it's nice enough that stefan opens up the windows and let's the gusty breeze come in. he's sitting in their living room, writing in his one of his journals when the power cuts.

he waits for it to come back but it doesn't and he's left sitting in the dark. he can see just fine but that doesn't mean it's not inconvenient. )

Guess I'm done with writing for the night.

( he should have expected wanda to be the one at the door when he gets a knock. he opens it and he just laughs because this is becoming a very regular occurrence. )

I'm half drunk so unless you're gonna join in...

( there's no rhyme or reason for getting drunk, it just feels like a good night to do it.

so, he is. and maybe she'll join him. can she get drunk? he doesn't know. )

[ if katherine had known he was sitting in the living room writing, she'd have been behind him and helping him write with gusto.

or she'd have been in the middle of a shower, purposefully giving him space. she'd seen him grab a pen and knew immediately what he had intended to do. for all of her teasing, katherine doesn't want to take away the one piece of solace he has.

except her solace has been ruined by the lights going out. the shower's off, but she's halfway through her post-shower routine and is in the dark.

Why are you getting drunk?

[ wanda smiles and cocks her brow, giving him a once-over in an attempt to see if she can tell how different sober amos is to drunk amos. considering things have been easier between them—and also different, and heavy in those differences—he seems lighter and a little more at ease.

she'd come over because, well… she had been lonely. and wanda figures she can come over now, even though she did when they had been friends-who-didn't-kiss. now, well… she thinks she can still come over, even without a proper reason. ]

Is it because you missed me? I'd get drunk, too if that was the case. I am very missable.

( is she about to blame him for the power outage? he hears her easily and closes his journal before moving to climb the stairs. )

Are you still in the shower?

Because sometimes you just wanna get drunk.

( he's not so drunk that he's slurring or anything but he does smile at her, wider than usual. he steps aside to let her in and then closes the door. )

I didn't miss you,. I don't miss people.

[ thankfully, or else she'd need him to come in and make sure the floor isn't layered with water. although she can see expertly in the dark, that doesn't mean she can somehow fix her hair that's half dry. ]

I was in the middle of doing my hair and now it's ruined!

Why does it sound like you're blaming me?

( he hadn't knocked the power out, katherine! )

Your hair is fine.

[ because he's the one with the education and many high school paper things! ]

Have you seen my hair?

[ you're not even here, stefan! she has her deerington phone out and lying on the sink to give the ensuite a very dull glow. ]

[ wanda makes a face as she steps inside and turns to watch him. ]

Sure, sure.

[ he's a little drunk, isn't he? his face is doing that strange thing where it stretches a little more than usual. she smiles, wrinkling her nose. that shape his mouth makes isn't an unattractive sight. ]

Do you like to drink alone?

Yes, I've seen your hair.

( many, many times. he laughs though because she's taking this so, so seriously. )

The power won't be out forever, you know.

Depend on what I'm drinking for.

( he makes a face and shuts the door behind her, making his way over to the couch to sit down. )

Sometimes, yeah.

( he feels old. he knows that vampires age and they grow and they get old but today, he really does feel old. as he passes the storefront window, he can see his hair, longer, lighter but still more youthful than other people who might be centuries old.

he stops and stares at himself for a few long moments, pressing his hands to his face. this feels...strange, different.

but, this is where he's always been, isn't it? this is where he belongs. he blinks a few times and then shakes his head. )

I need a break.

( and he continues on back home. )

( he never thought he'd have a routine but that's what's happened. he gets up, has breakfast, drinks coffee, and goes to work.

he works, fixes whatever piece of broken shit someone brings in and then he comes home.

it's strangely settling and he never thought he'd say that.

he's on his way home now, carrying a bag with dinner in it that he's definitely not going to cook. no one wants him to do that. )

[ he's laughing. he's laughing at this very serious situation right now. katherine huffs. ]

But it's out now. What if I dry my hair wrong and it looks awful, Stefan? I can't go to bed looking awful.

[ wanda imagines that he's interested in drinking with some company, what with the invitation to step inside and him closing the door. she follows him to his couch and folds her legs under her as she sits in the corner. she rests her elbow against the top of the cushion and leans her cheek against her fist as she looks at him. ]

Why are you drinking now?

[ katherine's sitting on the porch swing when he comes home, with a leg tucked underneath her and a glass of red wine in hand. vasilka lies in the sun a little ways away and aleksander sits on the grass and rolls in it. this is a perfectly content moment that's missing one person.

she smiles when stefan hits the path leading up to the porch.]

You took your time walking home.

[ wanda taps her foot impatiently as she waits for amos to come home. if he's not opening the door in a minute and a half, she's dating her promise of not conjuring anything up on this day of the week and making dinner magically.

but when that door wings open, she sighs heavily and feels a twinge of disappointment at not being able to magic up a roast dinner that he'd scold her for but enjoy nonetheless. this is the one day of every week when she can't use magic to cheat and cut corners. ]

If you don't come into this kitchen right now, I will eat you for dinner!

[ hi, honey. ]

...you're going to bed.

( he says that slowly. )

No one's going to care what you look like in bed.

You didn't call me to tell me that I was needed.

( not that she would if she thought things were okay. she'd know if his delay in getting back was anything serious. )

( he sits down across from her. )

I don't know if you think that's a bad thing but it sounds like fun to me.

( he stomps his way into the kitchen, tracking a bit of dirt but oh well. )

[ with a purse of her lips, she shrugs. ]

You seem like a lightweight who will spill all your secrets after two beers.

[ she wrinkles her nose and smiles at him. she's the lightweight. she's going to spill all of her secrets. ]

( because if there's one thing he can do, it's hold his drink. )

[ wanda scoffs and shakes her head. ]

I bet I can drink you under the table.

[ she'll be under the table. does that count as meeting that criterion? she's grateful it's a little vague at best. ]
