What: It's about time to start being a teacher, which means meeting up with them one by one and conducting their first lessons-- sparring for some, medic training for others. May not be completely nice and productive, due to blood type shenanigans. Thanks, December.

Where: Nehan's house for medical studies, and some fields away from people for combat training.

The basics.

Namely, the body. [he flips through a notepad of his, and shows him a page of a sketch of a person's circulatory system. one he made himself and he's no artist, but he knows how to outline someone's body by now.

and, as standard for doctors, his handwriting is nigh unreadable. but then again, everything is written in his personal shorthand.]

For your purposes, the human body. We have non-human Sleepers, myself included, but my anatomy is similar to a human's anyway.

Hey, is it a requirement for every doctor to have chickenshit handwriting? [Honest question here, just phrased deliberately in the most annoying way possible. But for once Richie's being nice and not trying to needle the guy too much, taking notes in his notebook and sketching out a copy of that outline for himself.]

This is the, [hold on while he racks his memory for the term,] cardiovascular system, right? The bit with the lungs and the heart and all the blood? [He pauses.] You think any of it changes when our blood changes in this world or is it just the same as it ever was?

[torpour]

[he is very, very fortunate that nehan has decided to ignore the needling, not even making any reaction to it. he simply continues like it never even happened.]

It's the same as before, it's just that our blood is no longer red the moment it leaves our bodies.

Do you know how to draw the different types of blood?

[At that, he shakes his head.]

No, that was Eddie's job. [For a moment he looks down and hunches in on himself, grief weighing him down before he rallies.] Why, any special procedures I should know about? He kept some in special containers, if I'm remembering right.

Paleblood can only be harvested at night, underneath the moonlight. [and he'll rattle off what he knows, pausing after every description in case the boy wants to write it down.]

Coldblood cant be harvested properly with a phlebotomy, it will just freeze your syringe and test tube in seconds. [does he know that well. it's still annoying.] It's not used for medical purposes, in any case.

Darkblood is the trickiest, because while it seems normal inside the body, bleeding a darkblood just makes sparks appear from the wound. You need a blood magic spell to make it become blood again.

[measuringdicks]

I'm guessing Warmblood just comes out like normal. [He writes all this down, with accompanying little stick-figure doodles to better illustrate what Nehan's saying.]

What's a phlebotomy? Fancy-shmancy term for sticking somebody with a needle and getting blood out of them? [It sounds like it, anyway.] What would coldblood be used for? Is it drugs? [A beat.] Holy shit, do I have cocaine blood?

[As for darkblood, he nods.] Do I gotta ask a blood mage for help there or can I learn a basic blood spell so I don't have to?

[nehan counts twenty seconds in his head, and responds only when he's sure the deluge of questions is over. for now.]

Coldblood is best used as jewelry for additional magic. [then he digs into his bag and pulls out a small cloth pouch, reaching into it with his gloved hand to pull out the little scrap of jewelry inside, softly glowing. he doesn't hold it out, not with the boy's ugloved hands.] Warriors will place this on their weapons to imbue them with fire or ice, but creating this jewelry is not the work of a healer. Best to leave that to Architects.

[then he tucks it back into the pouch, and lays the stone atop some books.]

As for dealing with darkblood, I will teach you the basics of blood magic-- everyone has new potential in this world, I found. Unless you're a warmblood, you have magic that you can now perform.

[measuringdicks]

...oh, cool, okay. So I can't just poke my thumb on a sharp needle and set it on fire. [He pauses a moment, then sighs with relief.] Thank fucking god, I've set enough shit on fire by accident already.

[Although boy would a flaming sword be cool. He makes a quick note of it in his notebook.]

Yeah, I'm, what's the word, a firebender now? But I dunno how that's gonna help me deal with darkblood—'s'good for cauterization, that's all I know.

Magic has different branches. Using coldblood might as well be elemental magic-- darkblood requires blood magic.
