[Human philosophers go back and forth. Michael feels pretty solid where he is, though: it matters a lot what you meant.]

All you can do is your best, you know? Doesn't always work out, but...there's nothing else you can do. It doesn't...help, to beat yourself up forever.

[Vyng wants to believe Michael. And it's absolutely the kind of thing he'd tell him, if their shoes were reversed. And yet—]

It just, just...you know. Sucks when your best leads to a mass-extinction event on a fucking cosmological scale.

[He scrubs his face with his hands.]

...Nngh. You're right, though. There's nothing I can do about it here, except try to keep moving on. Whatever "moving on" ends up looking like.

[Vyng closes his eyes, lets out a quiet breath. And then, dropping both hands onto his knees, he looks over at Michael with a quiet smile.]

Our mistakes don't have to define us. What matters is where we go from here. We're both living proof of that.

[Michael returns the smile, still small and a little sad but certainly genuine.]
