But the one time Baltus let Break "see" her, the omen was fixed pointedly on the butterflies in her hands, not Ange's face. Break doesn't recognize her, even as he realizes this must be the person who has entered the memory with him.]

As Break crosses the distance to take Ange's elbow and try to guide her gently away, the old woman nearby confirms that Lady Shelly was her own daughter, and Sharon's mother. "Unfortunately," she says, "she passed away a long time ago."
