[Why can't he be left to tell people on his own? Why does it have to be dragged into a conversation like this? When he's ready.
The villain one-liner is awful, like a child who's only experience of actual villany were from the campy books he devoured on the regular. Which...is exactly what it was. He feels awkward about it, but the overiding emotion is guilt. It comes to him in waves as he tries to make himself as small as possible, not watching what's happening.
A woman nearby, the queen, steps in, demanding that Varian let Cassandra go. In retaliation, Varian grabs her with the other robot hand. Rapunzel hucks her frying pan at the robot, it bounces harmlessly off the cockpit, but the princess is angry. Angrier than he's ever seen her as she steps into the fray.

"It's not enough until you endure the same amount of pain and agony I have!"
And then the automaton's hands close around the two women inside them, slowly crushing them- they cry out in pain as Rapunzel watches in horror. The older Varian still doesn't look, boring a hole in the ground with his gaze instead. ]
