Maul knew it was an odd offer, teaching someone so firmly set on the path of the Light when he himself clung so hard to the Dark and his identity as a Sith Lord. But Luke was different than most Jedi Maul had come across. They were close-minded and unwilling to learn from someone they saw as evil. But Luke wasn't like that. He saw Maul as his own person, not just being a Sith. He'd been kind to Maul from the very beginning and so his offer to teach him was genuine.
