Luz understood that the first thing that needed to happen was getting Fern to let go of his anxiety, and that wasn't going to be easy. It was a tense situation, and what Fern had been describing about the plants Luz knew she couldn't begin to understand. So it was much easier to try and slowly unwind the knot he'd made in his head.
It did sound silly, but Luz understood that a mantra, however funny it sounded, still had power the more you poured into its words, so it would be a place to start. You just had to make sure you have it shape, how you nurtured it. If anyone would understand that, it was Fern.
"All right. Now, as you grow, shift. Move away from the weeds that are choking you, that are snagging you in it's own growth. That's what this is: this place, whether good or bad, is trying to push itself into your growth. Don't get caught up in its roots. Grow away on your own."
