This world is indeed shaping up to be more complicated than anyone could have guessed. Fern hates it, of course, he hates having his body and abilities changed even more than he initially thought, he hates that he can't handle it, he hates that he's being a burden on the people he cares about. He should have tried harder, been better, because other people wouldn't be having a total meltdown over being able to understand plants. Who knows what could have happened if Luz hadn't been here to talk him down?

Speaking of, Fern is just going to go ahead and reach out and pull her into a hug. He really needs it.
