( the house isn't that big and she could hear him if he whispered but that doesn't matter. he still yells like they're some normal couple living in a normal city. aleksander, upon hearing his mom's name, comes running and sits at stefan's feet.

stefan chuckles and gives him a piece of steak before he turns down the lights in the dining room and lights a few candles. he'd ordered katherine to stay out of the kitchen and she'd actually listened.

that was a minor miracle. now, he's ready for her. he has no idea what he's doing, really, but he's just felt the itch, the urge, to do it all day and now that things are quiet, he's going to make that happen.

( when his skin starts to flake and peel, stefan doesn't think too much of it. he suspects winter's just getting to him and he ignores it. it doesn't hurt and when he wears clothes, no one can see it anyway.

so, it's not a big deal. he doesn't tell katherine anything when they lay down to sleep that night. and he sleeps fine.

when he wakes up in the morning, he feels...well, not all too different. his skin is still a little flaky and his back hurts a bit but again, it's cold and maybe he's just having some kind of strange reaction to it.

he gets up, stretches and runs his hands through his hair before reaching back to nudge at katherine. )

You gonna get up with me or am I gonna bring you breakfast in bed?

( usually, wanda's the one showing up to his house but amos decides to change it up. he doesn't think she'll expect him to just arrive at her place with a bunch of terrible for you food in his hands but that's what he does.

there's a bag of tacos, burritos, and other mexican food in one hand and a six pack in the other. he doesn't even know what to tell her the occasion except that she's one of his few friends there and with things feeling a little...weird, he decides that he wants to hang out.

it's not going to happen often so he hopes that wanda appreciates this drop in. he stops at her door and, with both hands full, kicks it to try and get her attention.

hopefully she's there. if not, well, he's eating everything himself and he's gonna get drunk on her doorstep. )

[ katherine's awake, although there's a good chance she may be able to fall back into her dreams if she doesn't open her eyes or try and focus too intently on the world waking up around her. she focuses on stefan's breathing and enjoys the way the bed dips with him still in it. ]

That depends on what the breakfast is.

[ she smiles, keeping her eyes closed. rolling over towards him, she snuggles deeper into her pillow. still doesn't open her eyes. while her dream is definitely in front of her, she likes sensing him without her sight. he's still very present and safe. ]

Are you planning on going out again?

No, I don't think so.

( he'd gone grocery shopping yesterday so he thinks there's plenty down there to figure out something to cook. pancakes, eggs, something. he gets up and stretches before he peers back down at her. )

Why, do you want something specific?

( if she's in the mood for something, he can go out. he just doesn't think he needs to. she likes his cooking. )

[ opening her eyes, she rests her cheek on the back of her palm and peers up at him with adoration. she's still a touch sleepy, but she's wide awake now that stefan's given her something to ogle.

she smirks, ] I did. [ with a pointed look at him, she shifts and rolls onto her side. ]

But he seems eager to get moving away from the bed.

Cute.

( but you're not going to convince him to get back into bed, katherine. he's hungry and his stomach growls to alert her to that too. )

We can eat something and then I can come back. So, last chance, do you want something specific for breakfast or no?

[ katherine pouts. he's absolutely no fun when he's all domestic and husbandy.

that's no problem—she can be the fun one between the two of them. she extends herself to lie flat on her stomach and stretches out pitifully in his shirt. she presses her cheek against the mattress and sighs heavily. ]

I'll have what you're having. Plus a cinnamon donut. And a chocolate croissant.

So, you're going to make me get changed and go out.

( since croissants and donuts weren't really his thing when it came to cooking. he wasn't a baker. but he says it like he's amused and gets up, stretching. )

Cinnamon croissant and a chocolate donut. Anything else since I'm making a baked goods run now?

[ katherine lifts her head and winks at him. that's her way of apologising for sending him out when he clearly hadn't wanted to be. but a walk may do him some good! it may return him back in the exact mood she wants him to be in: horny. ]

But [ she stretches her legs out across the bed. ] since you're busy fetching breakfast, I will simply wait patiently for you.

Are you going to wait like that?

( all stretched out and spread out and looking very, very inviting? he almost climbs back into bed with her but he forces himself into the bathroom to at least wash his face before coming back out to get some clothes on. )

Like you're waiting for someone to paint your picture?

[ resting her elbow against the mattress, she leans her chin in her open palm and listens to him walk about. she sighs sadly, turning onto her back and laying sprawled on the bed. she honestly likes the space. without the human-shaped stefan log in bed, she has more room to wiggle about. ]

Will you hurry back if I am?

[ watching him dress, she wishes that he was undressing. ]

No.

( he laughs as he says it, standing there and buttoning his shirt. he stops though as he remembers something and looks up at her. )

Do you remember the first time you slept with me? Not the very first time but after we both ended up here. Or in Deerington. And I don't mean sex, just...how it felt to sleep in the same bed.

[ of course, she does, but asking a question like that about that particular night is only going to have katherine scrunch up her face as she feigns needing to wrack through her brain. ]

Is this the time where you came in your pants? [ she smiles, peering up at him admiringly. ] That was a very good night.

[ and the beginning of the end of her own attempts at letting stefan go. foolish, foolish girl. ]

( stefan just laughs. trust her to not want to be mushy and cute when that's what he's thinking of. he shakes his head and finishes buttoning his shirt. )

You know that's not what I meant but I'll let you have it.

( this time. )

Go back to sleep. I'll be back soon.

[ katherine readjusts so she's lying against the pillows—his pillow, in particular—and on her back. resting her hands against her chest, she picks at the buttons of his shirt as she listens to him with her eyes closed.

she smiles. ]

How am I supposed to sleep without you?

[ did someone call for cute and mushy? ]

I think you'll manage.

( but he does crawl back into bed with her for a moment so he can drop a kiss on her forehead and then lips. he pulls away before she can distract him. )

If you don't wake up when I get back though, I'm eating your food.

[ she pouts when he pulls away. how dare he resist her! katherine opens her eyes and continues to pout, remaining on her back as she watches him. ]

And to think you could be eating me instead.

[ grabbing her pillow with her hand, she loosely tosses it at him. ]

Hurry back before I miss you too much.

[ see? she can be tooth-achingly sweet. ]

I'm always amazed that you can wake up and be like this.

( he says it lightly before he finally heads to the door, reaching for his jacket on the chair and tugging it on before he steps out of the door.

aleksander zips inside and jumps up onto the bed to take up stefan's space. )

I know.

[ katherine buries her face into aleksander's fur as he settles in stefan's spot. she shifts until she can lie comfortably on her side and rest her head on his back. ]

Papa is so mean to Mama. But he's going to go get us breakfast. Maybe he'll get you a nice treat, too. You've been a good boy, haven't you?

[ best add a dog treat to the shopping list, stef. ]

[ despite wanting to come running, katherine doesn't. if stefan is in trouble, aleksander, who has failed to inform her of what's happening every time she's tried to send him into the kitchen, will look after stefan in her stead.

katherine shoves her shoes back into her closet in a heap and quickly makes her way down the stairs. when she appears in the kitchen, she stops a little in front of the kitchen's doorway. her brows furrow as she narrows her eyes and takes in the sight before her. ]

Stefan. [ she smiles a little incredulously. ] I can finally come in?

[ ah. someone kicking at her door, that's a new one.

she knows amos is on her property before he even reaches the doorstep. she decides that he's not a threat. even if he came to pick some of her flowers or dig up her lawn, she'd let him do so and leave of his own free will. he's not here to harm her, not like hayward.

swinging the door open, she rests a hand on her hip and her other hand against the door, and regards him with an amused cock of her brow. ]

Are you trying to huff and puff and blow down my door? Because I don't think you're doing it right.

[ it involves more breath, for one. ]

Do you want to come in?

( stefan makes his way over to the door and reaches a hand out, waiting for her to take it. )

I can have my dinner with Aleksander if you'd prefer. I'm sure he'd eat everything I've made today. We never feed him and all so he's starving.

( stefan rolls his eyes but yes, he makes a mental note to get aleksander a treat. he'd have gotten aleksander a treat without katherine asking him but now he has to come home with something. )

Papa is going to get Mama food. I don't see how that's mean.

( it's cold outside and he's going to go out and get breakfast. that's nice of him. )

No, I was trying to bring you something to eat.

( he holds up the bag and even smiles at her before thrusting it into her stomach and stepping inside. )

Unless you're not hungry and if that's the case, I'll eat it all for you. I'm starving.
