Anna snickers playfully, glad that the joke actually hit, but she's thrilled to hear this level of excitement either way. "I get the same way," she says, following him and knowing that her bass is going to be safe here. She can trust Madam G. "First time I flew on my own, like, not in a plane or anything like that, it opened my eyes. The world looked different for the first time."

She could recount that story beat for beat if she wanted to. Right now, it's right on the tip of her tongue, and she doesn't even feel embarrassed thinking about it. "A friend of mine got a ring that gave her the power of flight. She let me try it on, and I floated forty feet in the air. It was the first thing that taught me that the world was bigger than everything I thought I knew." She's smiling as she recounts it. Kara had better be doing okay without her.
