"That's what she was supposed to be doing, yeah," Anna says. There's always a critical part of her whole situation that she leaves out, and now it seems more important than ever not to bring it up. "Until one day my soul started resonating with hers and everything about me started changing."

She doesn't need to give Kainé the whole rundown anyway, she doesn't think. It wouldn't do much good. "Place I'm from, we were never really supposed to meet the people from our memories. This is the closest I've ever gotten," she says, ignoring her conversation with 2B at the riverside given how fleeting that was. "A2 doesn't really know much about you, all told.
