cw: mentions of child abuse henceforth

The war against the colonizers that I mentioned earlier. Karm's activities can be traced all the way back to it. My ancestors fought with every other mortal and the primals, and settled into the middle of a small valley steeped in dark, hidden away from the rest of the world, split into different families, and kept their traditions alive for two thousand years, all the way to the end of the clan.

[the end is enough of a response as to what happened to them, even if it doesn't give precious, precious context.]

One of Karm's ancient traditions is a coming-of-age ceremony. Children who are of the right age, and have managed to master the martial arts of the clan and their families are gathered together for one final test, to see if they're worthy of being proper, contributing members of the clan. [once again, repeating himself word for word, nehan implying that this ritual is what he would have forced diluc to undergo if he had made a different choice.]

They drink a stimulant specifically designed to release all of the limitations of the body and draw out a singular person's power... which comes with a powerful bloodlust and rage. If the child manages to control themselves and not spill any blood until the drug runs its course through their system, they'll be considered adults.

[the more he speaks, the more obvious it is that this story has no happy ending. but nehan's halo stubbornly remains grey.]

One day, they gave the drug to a child who couldn't control the urges, and no adult could stop them, for this child was the most powerful and most gifted member of Karm to have been born in generations-- nobody stood a chance. The child slaughtered everyone with bare hands, and only I escaped because I ran all the way out of the valley. And I didn't stop running for a while.

All the way into the arms of slavers.
