[ Good music, better company, and even dancing later? This dinner date couldn't get more perfect, as far as K's concerned.

...Well, maybe only if it started snowing. A good excuse to curl up together by a fire, assuming Dirk's amenable to cuddling. ]

Promise?

[ There's something to be said for the simple domesticity of cooking with someone. Domesticity in general, really — it's always appealed to K, he finds it deeply comforting in a way few other things are. The first vegetable instantly falling into pieces with the speed of Dirk's cutting is met with a quietly amused glance as he's rolling up the sleeves of his dress shirt, and he's pleased when Dirk decides to take his time afterward. ]

A good sort of different? I find it relaxing. I'm glad we could do this together. [ The cutting boards are positioned in such close proximity to each other that his shoulder or forearm occasionally, sometimes intentionally, brush against Dirk's lightly while they're working, a subtle sort of affection. And it isn't long before he's quietly humming along to the music. He really does enjoy it.

Soy sauce and several spices and herbs are mixed together in a dish and set aside while he cubes the tofu. Hopefully Dirk won't mind the vegetarian protein option. Authentic meat really didn't exist in K's home universe — protein was largely plant and insect based — and it's still something of an acquired taste to him; he's a bit less confident in his ability to cook with it. He prepares the wok with a little of the sauce mixture and oil before plunking the tofu in to sauté it first, so it'll be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just the way he likes it. Ideally, so will Dirk.

Once the tofu's plated and there's enough vegetables prepared, he begins stir frying those, all the while intermittently checking the texture of the noodles as they boil. The casual way he just adds more of the vegetables as Dirk finishes cutting them (while naturally allowing their hands to brush in the process) speaks to his experience — stir fry is a deceptively simple meal, but there's a delicate balance required to ensure everything gets cooked exactly the right amount, no more and no less. ]
