When the call came through from Maul, Varian very nearly hung up immediately. Perhaps if it hadn't been video and it wasn't obvious what a state Maul was in, he would have done just that. But angry and hurt as Varian is, as much as he knows he needs to distance himself from this man, he can't and won't let him suffer.

His expression makes it clear he's extremely displeased about this, though.

"Seems that way," the response is terse as he moves about his lab, gathering his tools. "Doubt there's much point asking how."

He pretty much declared war against most of the city on the network. This was inevitable.

"Where are you? I'll come to you."
