I'm honestly not sure. In my case, I received a glass sphere with a flower inside. You'd think it a paperweight, but when you hold it, it shares sensations from a memory -- though what memory seems to change periodically.

Maybe both mine and yours are... gifts from a Pthumnerian perhaps? Though that doesn't really answer the question about trustworthiness, does it? Have you had much interaction with the Pthumerians?
