Luz took in the words her friend was saying. So she'd had to see two people she cared about killed, likely because they wanted to save her. Of course she'd have survivor's guilt. What more could she have done, she maybe could have stopped it if she were stronger.

Every time someone she cared about in Deerington died, she wondered why it wasn't her, how she managed to keep surviving even though so many people she cared about had been killed somehow. There was no real answer, but of course you imagine you could have done something if you just tried, if you took a stand and were there.
"Don't you think they know that? If they were not with you, that they'd be safe? I'm sure they knew, and chose to be there anyway. If they were willing to do that, don't you think they thought you were worth protecting?"
