[ vi’s jaded. she isn’t some underrated do-gooder who sticks her neck out for anyone and everyone who needs help. the undercity taught her to look after herself. the cruelty of life in general has also taught her to only put it all on the line for those that have slipped under the defenses to become someone of importance to her. that’s why she’s always tried to keep that list short. easier - and safer – that way. so the siren’s call doesn’t take: vi sees no figures in the windows and she feels no immediate need to run toward the fire, to fuck herself over in hopes of finding someone to rescue.
unlike her companion here.
katsuki quite literally blasts off and on reflex, vi stumbles a step or two back, only to catch herself on a: ]
Shit. [ – before rocking her weight forward to take off in chase. ] Fucking idiot. [ for how miserable of a fucktard this brat is, vi never would have dubbed him as the hero type. her oversight, perhaps. makes her think of his crabby network post about – what the fuck was it again? pro heroes? it didn’t apply to her, heh, so she never got around to asking anything about this dimwit’s life or intentions. she doesn’t even know this idiot’s name and yet, here she is anyway, bounding across rock and sprinting up an incline, backpack jostling loudly against her back, to put herself uncomfortably close in order to stop him.
she really needs to trim up her list. not that he’s even on it, hmph. it’s just – she’s stuck down here and he’s way more valuable to her alive, than dead. so call him a temporary addition to her list, just until she’s well and truly out of here.
closing in now, there’s a last stretch left and with him pausing just outside the building, it’s enough of a delay for vi to catch up. her already laboring lungs hurt further with that first inhale of smoke, but she blinks through the stinging of her eyes and reaches out. he steps forward and she grabs him with both hands, latching tight to his backpack. she swings her weight around on a one-eighty and unceremoniously whips him around, tossing him onto the ground a few feet away. now she’s winded: the smoke has her buckling over after the throw, lungs rattling on a cough. ]
Dumbass. [ she’s still got enough left in her for that though. feeling the heat at her back, she hurries away, stumbling closer to where katsuki is. ] Don’t go in there! [ people aren’t meant to just run into burning buildings. this isn’t some fairytale with a guaranteed happy ending. they’re fresh off some fucked up game in a jungle and now buried underground, in a cavern that just happens to have exploding buildings in it? vi doesn’t buy it. neither should katsuki. ]
