Deerington and then Trench had been Luz's crash course in horror, but the Boiling isles would always be her first insight into the strange and wonderful. There were plenty of both in Trench.

"It helps to have your friends around," Luz said, with a small smile. "Or your family, if you happen to find them here. Their support can go a long way."

With Luz, that was quite literal.
