Luz lightly tapped her forehead to Rose's back. It was a gesture to let her know that yes, she heard her, and that she shared the pain that Rose was feeling. Even if Luz hadn't been there, it was still seeing people die that would stay in Rose's head forever.
Luz knew what that was, in a sense. Perhaps she hadn't seen innocents die, which was still awful, but knowing what death was, smelling it in the air, having it feel like it was infecting your lungs, your whole being? Luz was disturbingly familiar with that notion.
You're allowed to live after all of that. No one could predict what would have happened that night. You lived, Rose, and that doesn't make you better or worse. It just means you'll appreciate living a little more, since you're able to.
And hopefully Rose might not have felt those tinges of regret Luz felt in the bottom of her heart. Right now, this was about Rose, and making sure those butterflies didn't feed off her.
