The way Midoriya throws himself at his training is something Johnny respects a lot. It doesn't quite remind him of when he was younger but it does remind him of his students. The way Miguel or Aisha would throw themselves into their training. He's also aware the kid catches on fast and improves each time he doesn't succeed.
Johnny was also aware of how strong this kid was, but watching him take this seriously really got his blood pumping.
He does block the kick, but the whirl catches him off guard and his trainee manages to get in behind him. He'll throw an elbow back to try and guard his back before he gets a full turn in.
