[ It's been good for Allen gaining a better, more rounded understanding about Shouto too. Though in his case, there hasn't been much that's surprising to him either. Allen may be a man who wears many different hats, even ones most people would think mutually exclusive, but Shouto... what you see is what you get, he's realizing; quiet, forthright, and direct. It suits him. The difference between the more emotion shown when fighting or under duress isn't surprising: it's commented on among Exorcists. It was commented on to him directly regarding his own manner... Unsurprising, yes, even if it does make him pause sometimes. Even if it seems like the other boy utterly misses the point half the time when it comes to normal human conversation.
