[sansa reacts as if he told her the place he grew up was lacking in water, or oxygen. which, you know. she has heard about characters traveling from world to world, but actually living in space...wild!!]
No agriculture?
[but wait, she may have heard of this. she found a book about her world last month and was very interested in the similarities between trench and asshai-by-the-shadow.]
Oh, there's a place like that in my world, a great Shadow where nothing grows and all the waters are poisoned. There's a city there, Asshai, with very great magicians, but they have to buy in all their food and water from elsewhere.
[they, too, are known for their blood magic and possible sacrifices, and the shadowbinders seem to be connected to the great shadow somehow, though given the degree maesters in her own country disagree on every little thing it's possible some things in the jade compendium are disputed. in another instance of sansa stark accidentally stumbling on the emperor's greatest secrets, she refrains from asking him if all the little cell sacrifices could possibly be poisoning his land with death energy.]
The soil in the Mountains of the Moon isn't that bad, but it's very thin and rocky, and if you go up very high there isn't even enough for trees to put down roots. Lemon trees especially need a lot of warmth and sun, so we mostly buy them from Dorne, to the south of us, especially in winter. It's very warm and sunny there, and they grow a great many lemons, and other fruits like grapes and oranges that need a good deal of sunlight.
