Sharon would never go so far as to say she loved Tinya. The slightly older girl made her heart flutter, but love felt like something from stories; a word was created to describe a vague feeling of want of companionship. For Sharon, it's not where she's at yet; she just enjoys being near the other girl, hanging out with her, and shooting the shit. Love is some far-off feeling Sharon isn't sure she can feel beyond her immediate family.

For her, it was a crush. A simple, unexplainable crush that she just couldn't understand (and that lack of understanding didn't bother her in the slightest).

"Parents really know how to fuck us up," She admits quietly, "I mean, once you're told something over and over, somehow it becomes true," Sharon spoke from experience but her pressure didn't come from her mother needing her to be the best: it came from her needing to be invisible; to duck and hide; to blend in the crowd; to be nobody.

"You'll probably never be able to get her words out of your head but... You might be able to use it to your advantage, you know? Become better at things for you, not for her. Because fuck her expectations."
