Dunno whatcha call them in your world, but if ya got convenience stores, general stores, corner shops, or gas stations, ya got a good idea of the stock.
[certainly not telling him "exactly" what he's selling, but dabi'll offer him the vague spread of what's possibly up for sale or barter. other people he might not be so forthcoming about the class of his wares, but unfortunately, he knows allen enough to bridge that gap. consider that another "price" they paid during their encounter.]

"Gas" station? [ While he had a somewhat blank, not quite getting it expression from that list he went through (but got enough of an idea to get "various common odds and ends"), it comes up full WTF for that one. He's aware that cars are a thing since they exist in Trench and use "gas", but -- gas station is more of a non-sequitur no.
Clearly there is only one thing they would have, too. He said as much. ]
Isn't it dangerous for someone like you to have much of that around...?

Not in ya time? [dabi's heard enough of the sleepers to realize the places, worlds, and times they could come from are innumerable. anything could be in someone's background. as strange as it is to hear someone sound confused about what a "gas station" is, the villain's surprise is only momentary. before the "ah, so that's it" realization wanders across his face.
a brow arches at the question.]
I got a lot of "that" around. Don't think any of it's dangerous.
[he's thinking allen's having issue with "gas station" items hanging around someone en mass. heaven forbid the jerky packs end up sitting beside the lighters.]

Definitely not in his time or world. And not Allen's first time realizing it by a long shot either, though almost more interestingly he's started realizing it's often a matter of "time" it seems almost moreso than different kinds of worlds -- seemingly. Or perhaps it's Viktor's "mirror universes" theory. That's what happens when old-fashioned Brits start chatting about all the new things and
snacksgadgets they realize the future holds while being excited to find a fellow countryman. Gas stations, however, were unfortunately not among them and he cracks a humorless sort of smile, raising an eyebrow. ]Apparently not. 1890's Great Britain. [ Took him a while to realize he's from further back than a lot of people it seems, technologically... he always just figured it was because that sort of stuff was never his forte. And you must not have raided a very good gas station then is on the tip of his tongue in retort to that, because obviously who wouldn't get gas from a gas station, but he'll mind it. ]
And that's still pretty vague. [ Honestly. "General store"? That covers a lot; ones from his time period even are pretty jam packed. You sure you're not here to try and pull some wool over his eyes?
Brushing it off, he leans forward lightly to rest his elbows on the table. Hands laced together in a businessman-like fashion. Ok, different tactic. ]
You know about the Sanctuary... Miss Alayne has been able to arrange for a lot, but there are some things that are harder to get. Medical supplies that aren't just about blood ministration, any sort of equipment a scientist or engineer could make use of, comforts from home people not originally from here might have missed... [ He makes an offhand gesture, a seemingly lightly casual thing but his demeanor is a bit too steady for it to be just that. The turn of a gloved hand a bit too graceful. ]

dabi's not surprised to learn people are from different times and worlds. he had a few experiences with that earlier on, but it wasn't until one of his allies from his own world appeared here with a completely different backstory and life choice that it really hit him just how completely chaotic this place could be. people can come from any world, any time, dimension, past, who the hell knows. best to simply nod and take it for what it is rather than try to resist. good thing he's learned to be adaptable in his life. though if anything, a lot of people still tend to come from "earth" even if theirs are different kinds.]
Ya from Britain? [lucky you, allen, but britain does indeed exist in the world of heroes and villains, with their own number one pro hero as well. (no idea who that is, but whatever.) it gives them a brief flicker of commonality, as touya had a good education due to being enji todoroki's child. history and geography included in those books. not that he makes much use of them in his current life choices back home.

[though that might be a wise move in the future, he prefers to be a mystery trader rather than some name attached to a "store" people can come to at their leisure. it keeps the control and advantage in his hand. that said, he does have a sort of categorized grouping and once allen leans forward and lays out a general idea of what he's looking for... that seems to click a compromise in touya's eyes. he finally lowers his hands and leans forward, one hand on the table like he's drawing an invisible list.]
Yeah. [the sanctuary, the little "love the beasts" group. not really helping your "i'm not a priest" argument, priest.] I got medical supplies. Modern painkillers, fever reducers, sinus clearer, irritation creams, antiseptics, and more potent varieties. Can't say what a scientist or engineer would want; they'll have to be more specific. But I know someone I met was real interested in towels and shampoo. Modern clothes as well.

Dabi's recognition gets a small blink from him, but he just gives a small nod as he makes note of that. (Have Allen and Shouto talked about, idk, such normal things as the places they were previously from in terms of geography while spending so much time together? So that he might realize things like they're from an alternative/future earth? You know that's honestly highly unlikely...) ]
Mm. Scotland, originally. [ Probably. Who knows, he doesn't technically know when or where he was born but that's what he's decided as true. Same with his age... Also how would he know a gas station sells anything else! A general store sells general items... a gas station should sell gas! Why would you complicate that!! ]
"Modern" painkillers and clothes? [ He blinks, gaze flicking up to Dabi in some surprise at not really getting what he means, but... getting enough of the picture to realize that's probably a good thing, given what other "future advances" there can be. It's as rhetorical as it is curious.
Also he's not a priest, that was his asshole master. And Allen's way kinder and less sleazy than him. ]
Things for pain, fever, antiseptics... anything good for wounds in particular like that would be good. And I can check, but I know he said something about copper? And would be happy with anything mechanical he could take apart. [ He gives a small, thoughtful as he taps a finger lightly against the table, sorting what Dabi mentioned against what has been lamented to him over or that he knows people have already been donating. ] Towels would probably be a good idea too... clothes are fine though, we don't need anything like that. [ They have a tailor who organizes clothing drives after all. Sansa would probably be So Offended if he dared to get anything on his own.
But all of this brings up something he's been wondering about since he first realized it was Dabi, and his head tilts lightly to the side. Not skeptical, just curious, and he sweeps his palm to the side in and offhand gesture. ]
What is it you want in exchange for things like this? You don't seem like someone who'd want to trade in blood.
[ Most Sleepers don't, and Dabi seems too pragmatic for something that's only useful for trading with natives really... or weird rituals and experiments. ]

the blink and nod at least give him some indication that allen and he are indeed from the same kind of "earth" after all. similar continents and countries even if they're from different times and types of societies. interesting.]

[who's ever heard someone speaking japanese with a scottish accent? dabi obviously doesn't know allen enough to call him out on bullshitting his backstory, so he takes it as current truth unless disproved otherwise later. as for the gas station question, gas stations are most often connected to some kind of general store. has he ever SEEN a gas station? it's not pumping hydrogen into a damn airship!]
Medicine from worlds that don't rely on mashin up plants into pastes, feedin mercury into your tea, and pourin tonic down ya throat to cure anythin. [is that a bit more in line with the medieval side of things or still carrying some weight in regards to some 18th century steampunk world. probably the longest string of strange words touya's said to him in the waking world.

[lifting a finger and pointing to indicate the priest correctly assessed when sorts of medical supplies he has. as for wounds, he's got gauze and bandages as well as antibacterial ointments and creams. so another check there.] Not sure I got anythin copper, but I ain't plannin on tradin away things just so they can be destroyed on purpose.
[he'd rather keep the flashlights, lanterns, cameras, kitchen aids, batteries and shit for people who put more value on them than breaking them down for experiments and pieces parts. no offense, but come on. as for the clothes... does allen really want to be introduced to the thing known as jeans and denim with t-shirts?]
Got towels and washcloths. Clothes are more for people from my time. The sort of things Shouto and his group would be familiar with. Though I already had someone get real excited about them. [enough she stole some for herself while helping touya shove his ill-gotten gains out the portal hole.
but finally it does come down to the other subject, that of payment. obviously a trade's a trade and he's into this for barter rather than asking people to stab their fingers on the nearby pin for blood. allen's right about that.]
Nah, I don't want that crap. [sure it has its uses, but he'd rather steal if it's gonna be required.] I'm lookin for stuff that'd be equal or better in exchange. Ya want somethin to deal with fevers, bring me somethin that helps with corruption. Ya want a torch [flashlight] then I want one of those lunar orbs. [he waves his hand in a dismissive way.] For examples. [those obviously aren't set trades. he mostly wants to break even in trades.
and here his eyes narrow on allen, as if the conversation went from flippant to shady. which it does.]
And I'll also exchange for favors. I'll give ya stuff so long as later on I can call in a favor from ya... One for one.

Also what's Japanese, an Akuma is clearly just an Akuma and Very Specific, duh.Some of those track with Allen's understanding of medicine in his world, at least the majority of it. It's a pretty normal 1890's most places for the most part, and he's been in plenty of less than advanced parts of it... and probably on the receiving end of some less than reputable medical care... He's just also more familiar with strange alchemical variants of 'modern' medicine too, but that was because of the advanced science and alchemy they had at the Order that was contained to just Exorcists. The sort of stuff that might get them burned as witches in some parts of the world, strangely enough... The analogy is enough to pull a lightly wry smile from Allen though. Ok ok, he gets it. Useful. He's had to swallow more than one nasty paste of something. ]
Fair enough. [ He raises a hand slightly in a concession to not wanting to trade things for Viktor to break down. Honestly he wouldn't know how useful it'd be anyway; he should really try to pin Viktor down for an actual list of things he wants. ] He'd probably be happier just to have coffee anyway.
[ Wait. Would he have coffee? That'd be amazing. Viktor would be so happy. Even Allen would be so happy... But oh. He perks up when Dabi clarifies modern clothes mean like Shouto has. ]

And nice underwear?He'd lent clothes to Allen for the first few days after he was back and they were really comfy... still. Sansa would kill him and "money" is better spent on other things. ] That's okay though. The medicines would be better for now... and coffee actually, if you have any of that.[ Dabi's idea of payment gets a lightly raised eyebrow from Allen, measuring, but it's in respect honestly. That's actually really savvy, and honestly quite fair. It's almost ironic how he doesn't have any problem with it whatsoever. He'd honestly give him anything to help with corruption because that's just part of looking out for people.
Is he going to say that though? Hell no.Well, he has no problems with that first part. He snorts lightly at his other method of accepted payment and taps his finger lightly against the table. ]
What kind of "favor" would you have in mind?
[ Skeptical? Who wouldn't be; it doesn't even have anything to do with Dabi himself or anything he knows about him but everything about the situation and that shift in his demeanor. But he's curious. ]

wow, cause not like "akuma" isn't a japanese word... manga/anime logic.allen's free to correct dabi's idea of his world's medical prowess, but without any correction, those more medieval fares are going to be the expected level. though seeing the way his eyes focus more in recognition, the villain figures allen's likely seen some kind of similar things from trench. after all, the lumenarium certainly has its own far stock of medicines. from vials of liquid to pills you'd expect to take.]
I got coffee. [definitely something most convenience stores have and he stocked the fuck up on that stuff. from powdered creamers to every bag/tub of coffee powder and beans he could, as well as hot chocolate mix for the wimps. if all else fails, get people hooked on caffeine. if allen wants to come back with an actual list of things looked for, then maybe there's more a chance dabi's trade for the sacrifice-intended object. it's not a hard "no" but more negotiable with an upswing in value.]
Uh-huh. [t-shirts ranging from single colors to cringe designs. and certainly underwear (though his definition of "nice" might have to subside on "basic" options) and socks. even has lingerie for the ladies, though he'll wait for them to come asking for such themselves, thanks.] One box of pain killers, one for fever reduction, and a bag of coffee.
[that's the current total for what allen's specifically made mention of. dabi doesn't plan on trading in bulk. these are more piecemeal things so he can keep his supplies going strong for quite a while. hopefully until they get a repeat of those portals... or he figures out a way to open them himself. the farther shores do give him stuff, but not so regular it'd replenish his hoard safely.
come now, the priest really didn't think the charred villain was going to ask him to lop off a finger for that coffee, did he? rude. things that are more irksome to get in trench when one's not willing to part with his blood over them. bloodstones for one, high quality incense, rare plants that are valuable in the city. as for the other aspect...]
Nothin comes to mind right now, but say I needed somethin moved from one area to another without attractin attention, or needed to get in contact with someone who was bein stubborn, or maybe ya found somethin unique I might want. I'm not the only guy who's found things in this world.
[no, he isn't going to ask for his patrons to kill for him, and "stealing" would be less the term he used compared to asking for the other end of the bargain to simply "acquire" the item in whatever way they felt comfortable with, so long as it ultimately ended up in dabi's hand.]
Or I might ask ya to use a power you have, but I don't. [he uncurls his fingers on the table, then closes them again.] I ain't gonna be unreasonable, but eventually I'll have a reason to collect.

He gives a thoughtful hum, head canted to the side and tapping his fingers for a moment against the tabletop. ]
We have a tea made from cherry blossom leaves that reduces corruption. I can give you some of that in exchange, as well as some dried blueberries that will let whoever eats them gain temporary healing powers. [ That last one? Yeah. A big one. Though one he'd hope would be found of more use to Dabi personally, but he'll also try to avoid owing any kind of blanket "favors" like that. Principle of the matter more.
Also, that sort of thing in practice can become a slippery slope. ]
You can always ask me to use my power anyway. [ Giving away a freebie? Sure, that's the point of his power anyway. So long as we're specifically talking about his ability to exorcise. ]
