"Interesting," the demon replies. "I've found some treasures but gave them away to my fellow investigator. Though it seems that I find lost insects."

Despite the general disapproval of critters, Chin Yisou has come to enjoy his. With a wicked grin, the demon insists on calling out to his new comrade. He places his palms to the ground and summons a fiery centipede!

"I call him, Huo Wu." The demon introduces his pet.

"Fellow investigator?" Dabi glances over at the other man, eyes narrowed with a piqued curiosity. "What kind of investigator? Messy hair with zombie eyes?" Might as well toss some details so it's not a quest in the dark.

The other part of that comment... does not surprise him too much. After all, the guy had a little rolly-polly centipede-like creature for an omen. What Dabi wasn't expecting was another summon. This one a hell of a lot bigger, with flames to match. He sits up, mindful of how close the flaming creature is to the tree he's lounging against.

"I'm guessin these ain't your omens then... Where'd you find something like this?" Most of the creatures in the forest are more monstrous, though this one isn't exactly what you'd call "cute" either.

"Hmmm, now that you mention," Chin Yisou replies slowly. "My fellow investigator did have an altered appearance. He tends to be all slouchy. Yet, he has quite the mind for solving riddles!"

The demon appears proud. He doesn't spend time with many often. Yet, for the few mutual he considers family Chin Yisou is quite partial to them. Huo Wu nudges him for a treat. After he provides a few berries from his bag, the demon feeds his pets.

"True, these critters aren't my Omen," he continues. "I found their eggs- one in the jungle and the other outside of the catacombs."

He passes a glance towards the tree. Chin Yisou recalls the nature of the usual gift.

"It seems as though, treasures come in many forms here in Trench." He passes a hand gently on the trunk. "This was a present, no?"

He turns to Dabi with a curious nod. The old man doesn't want to be misinformed. He thinks he knows of the special trees that were planted across Trench. Yet, he is doubting whether or not this one in particular fits that category.

"Hn." Dabi leans back against the tree, not sure he wants to continue that line of questioning. If this guy really does know L, then perhaps it'd not be a good idea to admit he almost killed the man for interrupting his thievery. "Sounds interestin."

Still watching the man tend to his burning bug-like companion, at least the villain's intrigued about the creatures. He's been getting used to dealing with his Omen, so the idea there are other creatures that aren't omens that could be tamed and kept around is... very interesting.

"Just happened on them or were ya actually lookin based on hints?" Mostly to see if this was happenstance or if someone was dropping bug eggs around and nudging people towards them. Dabi's naturally suspicious about this place.

"Ain't mine. Belongs to those Sanctuary people. But it's pretty helpful or leechin out corruption and hardly anyone ever comes out to the beach." This desolate area is far away from most lanterns and anyone who wants to go to one of the Saplings is far more inclined to head for the one in the Sanctuary property or one that's near or in civilization.

"Happenstance," Chin Yisou grins. "I never saw eggs so strange before. Insects usually hatch from smaller shells. I almost thought I found some breed of bird!"

The demon regards the idea of being lead to find the critters interesting. He has been lead to find strange notes often. Even then, Chin Yisou still cannot find their owner. If he knows the Detective, then I wonder what their relation is... The old man can't help his curiosity. However, he decides against reopening that discussion.

"The Sanctuary was surprisingly pleasant at the festival." Chin Yisou muses while staring at the sky. "Though, I don't think I'd venture there frequently. Too many people, you know?"

The demon turns an eye to the teen. He enjoys talking with various folks- only when they've piqued his interest.

"Would've expected a bird outta an egg that hatched that thing." Dabi tilts his head to indicate the smaller of the two bugs. Neither of them bother him; he's dealt with bugs before. It's more the size that's strange.

Likely a good choice not to open that conversation; Dabi's rather secretive about his activities and relationships, so offering such to a man he barely knows, and one who's exuding waves of sneaky, isn't gonna happen.

"Been there once or twice. Ain't a fan of their mindset, but I guess they're nice enough people. So long as they don't preach at ya." Dabi sits up from the tree trunk before pushing a hand to the ground and climbing to his feet. Brushes a couple sakura petals off his coat.

"I keep my distance. They don't agree with me." And stretches his arms over his head, shoulders popping and bones creaking a little. Guh, been sitting down too long.

While deducting the teen's demeanor as a means of irritation, the demon decides to keep his words few. He smiles at the statement.

"I agree," Chin Yisou replies. "I wouldn't normally seek the Sanctuary. Yet, since a friend was there, I thought otherwise."

The demon feels a nudge from the smallest insect. He returns his gaze to the other.

"I best be going now," the demon bows. "I enjoyed the chat. Glad to see that you've been surviving. Stay well."

He rises and leads the two centipedes with a wave of his arm. Chin Yisou stands as they scuttle forward. With another glance at the tree, he smiles.

"It is lovely, isnt it?" The demon says with a sentimental expression.

"Don't care if ya for them or on neutral terms. So long as ya ain't gonna preach their propaganda." That's the part Dabi isn't at all fond of. Their sanctimonious "save everything" way of hunting that they love to throw at people and get defensive of as soon as a Hunter goes in for the kill. Like the NORMAL hunters are the ones with the problem now. Right...

Dabi glances to the side at the sudden decision to depart, quirking a black brow. But then moves forward, opting to follow after the older man since he was already standing and the conversation just hinted towards something good. "Ain't done yet."

He throws a look over his shoulder at the Sapling, then turns back around and slides his hands into his pockets as he walks with Chin Yisou. He'll keep him company for a little bit longer at least. "Ever seen a sakura before?"

"Oh?" The demon pauses. "Don't worry, I was only at the Sanctuary because of The Ranger. I believe he helped host the festivities in honor of a passed friend."

Chin Yisou smiles. He wasn't expecting the teen wanting to continue the conversation. I can't complain. He has been to himself of late and talking is good.

"To be honest," Chin Yisou replies. "I don't remember seeing a Sakura before coming here. Have you?"

"The Ranger?" Dabi eyes him curiously, not having heard that name so far. Someone new or someone he's simply never interacted with before. But he does recall the festivities over a death a while ago... "Was that in response to the boat that pissed off the ocean?" Well, one of the "gods" up there, but you know... same diff.

Dabi's found the guy curious enough to keep the conversation going, still intrigued he's found him out after all the months of silence. Might as well see where this leads.

"Aa. They're native to my homeworld and country. Someone who asked for them probably came from a similar world."

"The Tanabata festival was for a departed friend." The old man smiles. "I'm not sure which event you're referring to. I don't get out much except to find food."

The demon pauses. He brings a finger to his chin.

"Then again," he continues. "I tend to find myself investigating some riddles. Still unable to find the rascal."

Chin Yisou's expression is leading. He forgets fairly easily these days. Yet, perhaps that's because he needs to keep himself busy.

"Last month or the one before, some idiots went out in a boat to yell at the seat goddess or somethin and most of them died." That's about as much as he cared to pay attention to. And if he's completely wrong about the summary, well too bad don't care.

"No shit." Towards Chin Yisou not getting out much to find food. "Grow ya own and you won't have a reason to ever leave."

A dark brow arches and Dabi leans forward a bit to peer at the demon with inquisitive narrowed eyes. "What riddles?"

"Serves them right," Chin Yisou replies. "It's never good to bite off more than you can chew."

The irony of those words settle. In short, I guess I could care less... He shrugs. Chin Yisou looks to the front of him. The two massive centipedes have sprawled out onto the grass. While hearing interest about the riddles, the demon smiles with a childish glee.

"Ever since coming here," he begins. "I came across an odd treasure hunter. They would leave behind clues during their heists. I have the mind to solve the riddles and discover who exactly N.P. is."

The demon raises a finger.

"At least I've had help from The Detective." He pauses. "So, have you heard of any strange riddles?"

"Sometimes the results are fun to watch."

This time around, he hadn't gotten to see the results (nor did he want to after learning what happened). He didn't care about the people involved, but in most stories, pissing off a "god" thing meant other people not involved got caught up in the resulting temper tantrum. Real fucking pleasant work there...

This guy seems pretty keen on his bugs. Dabi mildly wonders if that's something from his home or something he picked up, since he mentioned finding the two centipedes here.

"A treasure hunter? N.P." Dabi frowns in thought, but no one immediately comes to mind that fits the description. He knows someone whose name starts with N but can't say he's cared enough to ask for a last name... Huh.

"Who's the detective? And no."

"I see," the demon replies. "It's a shame though, I was hoping that we weren't the only ones who ran into the riddles."

The demon sighs. He finds N.P.'s antics both amusing and annoying. Chin Yisou pauses to answer his inquiry. Would it be right to tell? He doesn't distrust Dabi unlike others of whom he would hide his identity. So, why would he hesitate to share a name?

"Zhentan," the demon answers. "That's their name."

"I don't like gettin too involved in all the shit goin on round this place. Too much and ya end up drownin in "stuff" ya can't keep track of." He'll stick to the occasional and get involved with that as he feels like.

The sigh piques his curiosity, especially since he's assuming these two are allies in a lose sense of the word... The hesitance is also telling. Not at liberty to say? Or is this a mutual respect consideration? Then again, there's also himself to take into account. HE wouldn't up and tell personal information to someone else...

Ah, well then.

"Never heard of em."

"I see," Chin Yisou smiles. "Sometimes detectives stick to themselves until they need information. You'd recall him if you've met him. Zhentan has some quirks about him. Though, don't we all?"

The ease in reply pleases the demon. He doesn't wish to be conflicted with a potential brother. After all, being in Trench means finding folks to work with.

"So, we are you headed now?" The question is abrupt. "Have you a need for a bite to eat?"

Time has passed but Chin Yisou is unaware of how much. He does like to be aware of another's needs. That's what families do. He thinks with a grin.

Quirks? Oh, the other use of that word. Dabi scoffs inwardly at the question. "Ain't really the kind to hang around detectives. They're good at gettin into business which doesn't concern them."

He's had a run in with a detective before, some idiot who was hired to track down and investigate some activity Dabi was behind. Not much came from it, outside of a tentative truce and a meeting, but it reinforced his opinion on law enforcement.

"Followin you. Didn't feel like endin the conversation." Chin Yisou had been the one to leave and Dabi the one to follow from the tree. He has no destination in mind, just the curiosity enough to tag along for shits.

"You payin?" As much as people "pay" in Trench for something to eat. While he's capable of getting his own food, if someone's gonna put themselves in the position to mooch off, he'll go for it.

"I see," Chin Yisou replies with a grin. "There's no harm in good company."

He takes a pause. When talking of food, he recalls of a location nearby. Chin Yisou provides a bow.

"I know of a decent place," he announces. "Just follow me."

The old demon walks along without a care. He leads Dabi through a grassy path that trails into a forest. Beyond a clearing lays a wide lake.

"Here we are!" The demon cheers. "Do you like fish?"

Chin Yisou beams as his centipedes already make their move towards the water. Two pairs of mandibles dunk beneath the surface. Both are eager for a drink.

"Depends on how good a judge of character ya are." It's a droll statement, wry jesting at best, but at least he's aware this guy isn't immediately out for threats. Shouldn't hurt to tag along for a while more. Get a meal out of it.

"Uh-huh." It's what he's been doing for a while now. Following. The bow gets a pursed expression, unsure about that formality and dismissing it at the same time.

Considering the Farther Shores aren't directly connected to Trench like the more-used fishing lanes outside the city's wharf, the two are once more back in the forest. Usually Dabi takes to flight over the woods rather than walking through them like an idiot, but in this case... well he does have a literal meat shield if necessary.

The lake, however, is one he's seen from above but never actually visited... and then he gets the distinct idea Chin Yisou is not referring to a restaurant for a meal. Roughing it, huh.

"No. Hate it." Sorry, buddy, but you're looking at an odd Japanese man who hates fish. Reason for that, but not one he's going into. Dabi instead indicates the two centipedes drinking at the lake sure. "Ya sure those two ain't gonna get eaten?"

He doesn't like...fish? Thr demon looks confused. While noting the remark about his pets, Chin Yisou agrees.

"I'm surprised to be honest," he smiles. "As for them, I guess I can call them back to their safe haven."

The demon approaches his centipedes. The smaller one nudges him with a friendly gesture. However, the larger of the two hisses in aggravation.

"I'm sorry, but it's best to send you back." Chin Yisou motions with his hands. "I'll let you out at camp."

Once the centipedes recede into a small portal, Chin Yisou sighs.

"So, what did you have in mind for food?" He asks.

Chin Yisou was ready to catch a bite. Yet, if his company isn't in the mood for such a meal, then the demon must concede with another option.

"Not everyone likes fish." Dabi doesn't mind things like shrimp and crab and seaweed, but fish in general makes him retch.

Only reason he commented about the bugs is that in this place, where monsters roam and the woods aren't safe, sending your pets to the water's edge without checking is just asking for something to leap out and bite down. No matter how tranquil the lake looks.

Dabi watches in silent curiosity as the creatures are ushered through a portal. Interesting. The big one's got an attitude. Definitely not an omen in that case. "Camp?" Not his business, but since it was said... and he picks up on it.

"Thought you were headin back to town. Usually get somethin at the marketplace or one of the bars." Though at least with the bars, he'll actually pay for his food, compared to stealing at the marketplace.
