misc lab stuff and various fruits.

[viktor's lab in the willful machine is usually left unlocked when he's working inside. friends or acquaintances have likely been told they're welcome to stop by if they like, either to say hello or to get help with whatever a vaguely sketchy lab could handle. of course someone he doesn't know can just walk in too or knock. maybe there's a sudden downpour and that ajar door is tempting? go for it.

the lab has been slowly filling with all sorts of nonsense on the various tables- lasers! tasers! some weird machine hooked up to a blood gem? it is not unlikely to be walking by and hear some minor booming noise and either a curse in czech or a satisfied 'a-ha!' feel free to investigate.

this month there's something else too, a bowl full of fruit. all the fruits mentioned in the tdm in fact, there to be tested on though it looks more like they're just for guests if people are unaware there's some weird shit going on.]

Just a moment, make yourself at home. [he might say to guest. that would include eating some fruit, right? enjoy. probably not the raw lemon though, that's weird.]

gaze and time loops.

[having lungs mostly working for the moment is pretty great, in viktor's humble opinion. it means walking around the trench doesn't come with the risk of coughing up blood and attracting beasts and generally having a bad time, along with added perks like not getting so easily winded and going for longer. it also means he finds himself out longer than he usually would, which maybe isn't the best, as it turns out.

for example, making his way home through gaze and hearing the chilling cry of a beast, sighing and trying to make his way around what turns out to be the wrong corner. maybe that's where he sees your character before the snarling of a too close beast starts in earnest.

and then snap! they're both back about an hour, where they passed on the street. the look viktor gives is somewhere between resigned and 'fuck this, actually.'] There is a term for this. 'One of those days,' I think.

[viktor blinks, stumbling a little as he's pulled but when his gaze turns to the doll that lunged it just... stops. freezes, a normal doll sitting on the sidewalk like it fell out of the hands of a wayward child.

aside from the stomach churning unease that comes from looking at it viktor would be hard pressed to find anything odd about it.]

That- you see that, yes?

[at least it isn't moving? maybe that's worse somehow.]

[Scorpia blinks as she tries to come to terms with what happened. With the danger passed, she releases Viktor as she looks down at the doll.]

I sure did! It... it was like it was coming right at you!

[But now it's lying on the ground, motionless. Lifeless. It has to be just a normal doll. Scorpia squints in the direction the doll came from.] Did someone throw that at you...?

I do not know. It looks familiar though.

[he kneels with a huff to pick it up, frowning at the thing before he realizes-] I saw this at the store only a few moments ago, how odd it-

[and when he turns his head away from it to look at scorpia it goes ugly and mean, ready to pounce again before his gaze is back on it.] -gave me an odd feeling then but I thought it best to leave the thing alone.

Someone doesn't seem to agree with your feeling.

[She muses as she taps her cheek with her pincer in thought, while she listens to him.]

Maybe someone just... really wants you to have this doll? It doesn't seem... that bad... does it?

[that... is an interesting point actually. he squints at the doll as if it will somehow divulge its secrets. no luck. hmph.]

I suppose it could be worse, and I did not believe I would be saying that about a doll that seemingly followed me through the streets. At the very least my partner will enjoy it, if it's haunted or something ridiculous like that.

See? There you go! It has a place in your life. Or your partner's life, which is connected to yours! [She realizes that she doesn't know much about the guy, and she looks away from the doll as she asks.] Oh yeah! What's your name?

I am Viktor. [he answers, which also means he looks away from the doll and well... it absolutely takes that chance to lunge again. jerking out of the way has it barely missing his jugular, though again with a look the doll is normal and-]

I see, it moves when we are not looking. It also apparently has not quite forgiven me.

[so dry. why is the trench Like This.]

Nice to meet you, Vikt- oh!

[She's surprised at the doll's latest lunging! This time there definitely couldn't have been someone throwing it. It really is just doing that!]

Okay, that... that does sound more than a bit unsettling, not going to lie! It really has it out for you... What could you have even done to it?

... I may have called it ugly. [viktor. he would give scorpia a sheepish look but he's decided looking away is a very, very bad thing so. instead he's just going to eye it uneasily.]

In my defense I believed it was just a doll and not eh... sensitive on the subject.

That's not very nice. [She says with a disapproving frown.]

Now I personally believe in being nice to all things, even if they're not alive. This - this could be a good learning moment for you!

[gods this is his life right now, learning to be nice to an ugly doll- ok, not. ugly. just a unique doll.

with a sigh he decides ok sure, he'll try. mostly what he feels like he is learning is 'don't assume anything is just a doll and not cursed' but... worth a shout]

Er... I am sorry for calling you ugly. You are- very lively. [he's. trying.]

There! [Scorpia now smiles in approval as Viktor apologizes to the doll.]

Now that wasn't so bad, was it? In fact, keep it going! Try saying some more nice things about it, for good measure!

[viktor glances to scorpia at that, and maybe it's working since the doll doesn't lunge but does get an ugly look. like it expects more.

he catches it out of the corner of his eye and just. bites back a sigh. well, at least scorpia is here to make sure he doesn't try to out stubborn a murder doll, she has earned her tip and more.] Eh, you... your clothes are well made. You are capable of remarkable stealth and- you will make a good gift to Palamedes.

[he likes weird horror dolls, viktor wisely doesn't say.]

Nice! You're doing great. [She clasps her pincers together excitedly.]

Wow, 'Pal-amedes'. I don't know if I've ever heard a friendlier sounding name! [It sounds like being named Friendicles.] But that sounds like a great idea. Let that partner of yours have it! That sounds like a nice way to resolve it.

[that gets a chuckle, despite the whole holding a doll that may still want to kill him thing.] He's a fairly friendly person as well, if not with an unfortun- [don't insult the doll, viktor. he clears his throat.] With a good taste in dolls.

[nailed it? at least when he hesitantly glances away the doll doesn't try to attack, making his shoulders slump in relief.] Well this has been an experience.

I'd be real surprised if he wasn't friendly! Sounds like someone to befriend. Nothing wrong with having an eye for dolls, either! [She seems to have not noticed Viktor correcting himself or chose to ignore it.]

Oh yeah, well, that's kinda life here in Trench. It's full of a whole lot of experiences! I'm glad this one's come to a nice and peaceful end.
