misc lab stuff and various fruits.

[viktor's lab in the willful machine is usually left unlocked when he's working inside. friends or acquaintances have likely been told they're welcome to stop by if they like, either to say hello or to get help with whatever a vaguely sketchy lab could handle. of course someone he doesn't know can just walk in too or knock. maybe there's a sudden downpour and that ajar door is tempting? go for it.

the lab has been slowly filling with all sorts of nonsense on the various tables- lasers! tasers! some weird machine hooked up to a blood gem? it is not unlikely to be walking by and hear some minor booming noise and either a curse in czech or a satisfied 'a-ha!' feel free to investigate.

this month there's something else too, a bowl full of fruit. all the fruits mentioned in the tdm in fact, there to be tested on though it looks more like they're just for guests if people are unaware there's some weird shit going on.]

gaze and time loops.

[having lungs mostly working for the moment is pretty great, in viktor's humble opinion. it means walking around the trench doesn't come with the risk of coughing up blood and attracting beasts and generally having a bad time, along with added perks like not getting so easily winded and going for longer. it also means he finds himself out longer than he usually would, which maybe isn't the best, as it turns out.

for example, making his way home through gaze and hearing the chilling cry of a beast, sighing and trying to make his way around what turns out to be the wrong corner. maybe that's where he sees your character before the snarling of a too close beast starts in earnest.

and then snap! they're both back about an hour, where they passed on the street. the look viktor gives is somewhere between resigned and 'fuck this, actually.'] There is a term for this. 'One of those days,' I think.

Your cursed blood? How is it cursed, and what effects does the curse have on it?

[the good thing about someone breaking in without breaking, he doesn't feel particularly rude asking that. he'd ask anyway but still.]

I'm half vampire, if that word means anything to you. I was born with cursed blood in my veins.

[Left Hand was able to drink it without suffering, but even other Vampires couldn't tolerate D's ancient blood. D suspected it was only the fact that his left hand was part of him now that protected the parasite from his blood.]

Another Sleeper published a paper recently on rendering vileblood safe for consumption. That might make a good place to start.

It does, though my understanding didn't realize someone could be half of a vampire. It's eh... a curse in itself, I suppose? At least in lore. Something afflicted on an individual.

Two vampires produce a vampire child, and a vampire and human produce a half-vampire child. But the curse can also be spread.

[D's blood is exceptionally strong and he's hesitant to allow any study of it that isn't under his direct and immediate observation. Knowing that he got up to with the blood that they shared, letting anyone have it outside his supervision is a risk.]

A centrifuge or some other way to separate blood is one of the steps necessary to create dried blood capsules. I don't know how well they'll work for blood magic here, but they're very useful to Dhampirs.

So it is a species as well as an affliction of sorts. [huh. as far as he knows there are no real vampires in his world so there's not much he can go off of other than vague stories made to frighten.

[a win, he guesses. dried blood capsules? that has him tilting his head.] Darkblood already turns to a powder, but I imagine barring the magic inherent in other bloodtypes it wouldn't be impossible. Paleblood in it's moonlight form still has the consistency and characteristics of blood in most ways.

Dried blood capsules are made by separating the blood cells from plasma and processing them separately into a powder. It has enough of the same supernatural qualities to be good for vampiric thirst, so it might hold some of the same blood magic properties here.

[That, and D very much prefers consuming blood he doesn't have to enjoy as he drinks it.]

With the ability to turn blood into stones here it shouldn't be difficult to refine.

No, I imagine not. Are they something you need for your own diet?

[does being half vampire make that a thing? if so maybe he'll put a rush on the centrifuge, it sounds like it could be useful. better than drinking blood alone, at least.]

I need blood. I'd rather avoid drinking it.

[Being half vampire makes that a big thing and D ate through what should've lasted him for years during his first month due to his excessive blood thirst]

Hm, very well. If you can make the effort to stop rifling through my notes without asking I could certainly get to work on a centrifuge.

[dry, though he's moving over to one of the scrap metal tables to take note of stock, hand to his chin.] Does sleeper blood nourish you? I imagine vileblood is tricky.

Another sleeper found a way to make vileblood safe to consume, but the smell isn't right and the color is worse. The temperature and color of coldblood are also not right. Both of those and darkblood aren't likely to help.

Warmblood and paleblood that hasn't been moon exposed both work almost as well as Trench native blood. But only from human sleepers.

[Other species that are close to human might be viable as well, but D isn't interested in experimenting with something as volatile and dangerous as his blood thirst. Particularly when any spilled blood causes more corruption and blood pollution.]

Hm, coldblood can be melted and warmed when mixed with other bloodtypes. Have you tried bloodtypes mixed?

[it's already an odd thing, he hasn't a clue how it would effect blood as a food source.]

Paleblood seems to be one of the dominant bloodtypes at least, and as long as it is kept contained it should be useful. Preliminary tests will likely be with it.

I haven't, but it may still be too far removed from human blood to be any use to me.

[There is some give when it comes to it, because human mutant varieties are still usually close enough, and even another Dhampir or other human hybrid might work, but the closer to pure unaltered human the better.]

If Trench native causes less corruption, it's not difficult to trade for it.

Fair enough, sleeper blood is already more magic than anything, as far as I have seen.

How much do you need to sustain yourself weekly?

I've been having trouble with my thirst since arriving. In normal situations I only need about two cups worth every week or two.

[D has gone through most of a year's supply of blood capsules in his first month to keep his thirst at a safe level.]

Hm, not unmanageable, though it would be far easier with sleeper blood. It seems sleepers replenish blood cells and such at an alarming rate, for one.

There's a larger population of non-sleepers to draw from, though trading for that much blood might take some effort. If it has to be sleeper, warmblood or paleblood that hasn't been exposed to moonlight both work.
