misc lab stuff and various fruits.

[viktor's lab in the willful machine is usually left unlocked when he's working inside. friends or acquaintances have likely been told they're welcome to stop by if they like, either to say hello or to get help with whatever a vaguely sketchy lab could handle. of course someone he doesn't know can just walk in too or knock. maybe there's a sudden downpour and that ajar door is tempting? go for it.

the lab has been slowly filling with all sorts of nonsense on the various tables- lasers! tasers! some weird machine hooked up to a blood gem? it is not unlikely to be walking by and hear some minor booming noise and either a curse in czech or a satisfied 'a-ha!' feel free to investigate.

this month there's something else too, a bowl full of fruit. all the fruits mentioned in the tdm in fact, there to be tested on though it looks more like they're just for guests if people are unaware there's some weird shit going on.]

Just a moment, make yourself at home. [he might say to guest. that would include eating some fruit, right? enjoy. probably not the raw lemon though, that's weird.]

gaze and time loops.

[having lungs mostly working for the moment is pretty great, in viktor's humble opinion. it means walking around the trench doesn't come with the risk of coughing up blood and attracting beasts and generally having a bad time, along with added perks like not getting so easily winded and going for longer. it also means he finds himself out longer than he usually would, which maybe isn't the best, as it turns out.

for example, making his way home through gaze and hearing the chilling cry of a beast, sighing and trying to make his way around what turns out to be the wrong corner. maybe that's where he sees your character before the snarling of a too close beast starts in earnest.

and then snap! they're both back about an hour, where they passed on the street. the look viktor gives is somewhere between resigned and 'fuck this, actually.'] There is a term for this. 'One of those days,' I think.

Ah yes, she must have worried Ms. Tabby. It can be quite dangerous out here. [viktor informs the child. his eyes go to megumi as he uses his cane to pull himself up, concerned but trusting the man will say if he needs immediate attention. making a fuss in front of the kid will just make things complicated.

his lips quirk when megumi has the same thought he did, nodding.] That would be excellent. Kage is a very good dog who can lead us to your sister with his nose.

[he explains to the child, before looking to megumi again.] Fushiguro, I'm going to leave my omen with you just in case, yes? [from quiet black smoke comes a extremely large lizard of some sort, though with a big eyed, friendly face that hopefully doesn't alarm. she moves over to megumi to examine him, sitting in a little protective curl nearby.]

Yes. [ Bowing his head quickly as a way of thanks. The omen that appears out of the smoke is not something Megumi has never encountered before. Between the welcoming expression, and delicate surreal tail, green eyes light up as he can’t help but take awe at the mystical creature who warmly curls up next to him. His inner animal lover and nerd are overwhelmed.

From behind Megumi, Kage seems to take shape. Viktor will notice her demeanor is much more welcoming and friendly. Her fluffy black butt wiggles back and forth from her tail going a mile a minute. She happily prances up to the child, and begins sniffing his shirt. A small amount of soot must have gotten up her nose, (oops watch out!) as she stops to make an unexpected sneeze before shaking it off continuing her mission. The boy laugh's as her wet nose and tiny whiskers tickle him. When she’s sure she’s got it, she sits back and barks once. ]

She’s all ready.

[ Looking up one last time at both Viktor and the boy. ]

Take care of each other and be safe.

[ His words seem to run into each other, because his body is screaming at him to rest, and he can no longer put it off. Kage runs up to him, giving him a lick on the cheek, before returning to Viktor. Her look is one of optimistic reassurance and unspoken gratitude. She nudges his hand as if to say, Thank you.}

OOC: [Viktor’s omen is so cool! I love her design. She reminds me of a mystical salamander! Would it be alright if we handwaved that whenever the child actually gets home, he gives Viktor the bell, and tells him to ring it if he ever feels lost? ]

[rio is happy to plop her big head on megumi's leg, a soft trill that lights her body from within with a soft glow. she seems quite comfortable, ready to play something like a guard and more like a comfort while viktor focuses on the child.

and kage, who plays the part of the dog beautifully. viktor smiles as he watches, turning back to megumi with a nod.] Stay safe yourself.

[viktor rests a hand on kage's head in return, a thank you of his own before he is off. it takes a while, maybe an hour or two at most, but when he returns it's with a hurried step, hoping to find megumi well. he knows he's probably fine, as rio could have easily informed him one way or another of trouble.

he has the bell in one hand a wrapped piece of what smells like amazing bread in the other, still warm and pushed on him in gratitude by the child's caretaker.] Fushiguro, he is home and safe.

[the general relief is palpable. that could have ended so poorly.]

[ooc; heheh isn't she so cute, i am glad i had a reason to bring her out. and yest that works perfectly! that is so cute too dfgdfg]

[ Soothing and calming, having Rio's head gently rest on his leg, as consciousness fades to black. The last thing he sees is the three figures going further into the distance. The reptile's protective comfort has the effect of an anxiety blanket. Within seconds of closing his eyes, the young man passes out.

It's been awhile since he's used that much energy. Preferring to use as minimal as possible normally, but this situation seemed to require a unique approach.

Knowing a young child was trapped inside might have added to his hesitancy to use blunt force, but it also inherently made things incredibly more difficult and dangerous. Still knowing and seeing are quite different. Everything becomes so much more visceral. Coming face to face with the human being buried behind the mask of a monster. Those are the moments that create nightmares and don't always end like a dream in reality.

Pulled from all those thoughts as the word "home" seems to trigger him. Light green eyes open slowly. It's dark, but looking up, he is met by Viktor, as the fresh smell of bread hits his nose. An uncontrolled stomach moan escapes. That did not happen. Ignoring it completely.

Viktor looks at ease, the child has not returned with him, and Kage is completely content?? ]

That's-- unbelievable. [ Out of all the possible scenarios, finally for once something good is the final outcome. Pulling his knees to his chest. He wipes his nose which peels off a smoky blue shard, falling to the ground, shattering upon impact.]

[ OCC: Okay, tiny Viktor and a magical reptile is just so precious and wholesome. I need more of that in my life.

[viktor's lips quirk as he carefully sits beside megumi, letting the knee with the metal brace around it stretch out before him and placing his cane down beside him.] A happy ending? I agree. Frankly I am far too much of a pessimist for this kind of outcome.

[said dryly and he's still smiling a touch as he unwraps the bread and tears off a piece to hold out to megumi.] From the boy's guardian, who was very grateful. You look like you could use some.

The boy also gave me this. [he places the rest of the bread on his lap to hold out the bell, the gentle chime of it between them.] For you. To ring if you are ever lost, according to him.

[because megumi deserves the reminder of what he managed to do here, even as viktor regards him with a touch of concern. just tired, he hopes, because that injury had looked gruesome for the moment it was there.]

[ooc; right!! honestly when i learned i could have rio as an omen here that was the tipping point for apping, those are my priorities...]

[ Pessimists are people who have been let down too many times, something very relatable.

Sometimes it's just easier to prepare for the worst and be surprised and grateful when you're wrong. [ Nonchalantly stated before a pause. Looking up towards the sky. He opens his mouth as if to say more but stops.

!! Oh no, is it that obvious. He knew he lost weight recently but didn't think it was actually noticeable. Looking down at his stomach before slightly panicking, and putting his chin down into the collar of his shirt. But hunger is something that's too hard to ignore. Giving in and taking the bread from Viktor, his eyes widen when the soft dough comes in contact with his cool hand.]

It's still warm.

[The bread melts in his mouth, leaving an almost sweet taste, as his body breaks down the carbs almost instantaneously. This is something he's craved and hasn't had in a long time.

Brought back by the sound of the chime, his body becomes rigid before relaxing. Blinking curiously before putting out his hand. ]

Hmm must be a way the kids can tell where each other are? [ Not the type to make a big fuss over it outwardly, but touched by the boy's gift. ]

Bracing is often easier than disappointment. [he agrees, a lesson he's never been able to shake completely. he was always torn between finding hopeful people naive and far stronger than he was, but that was another matter entirely.

he pulls off a little piece of the bread himself, not particularly hungry but given megumi's reaction he thinks it might make him a little more comfortable. his back presses against the wall, and the bread really is very good. he'll probably be pushing more at megumi soon enough, but for now he chuckles.] She insisted on wrapping it so it would stay that way. I'm just glad there's no fruit in it.

[tired of fruit bullshit. anyway he places the bell in megumi's palm, the calm jingle of it all that sounds in the space other than a quiet trill from rio, who is pleased by the sound.]

Maybe so. Perhaps it is a folk charm? For safety and finding your way, it would make sense for people living in Gaze.
