misc lab stuff and various fruits.

[viktor's lab in the willful machine is usually left unlocked when he's working inside. friends or acquaintances have likely been told they're welcome to stop by if they like, either to say hello or to get help with whatever a vaguely sketchy lab could handle. of course someone he doesn't know can just walk in too or knock. maybe there's a sudden downpour and that ajar door is tempting? go for it.

the lab has been slowly filling with all sorts of nonsense on the various tables- lasers! tasers! some weird machine hooked up to a blood gem? it is not unlikely to be walking by and hear some minor booming noise and either a curse in czech or a satisfied 'a-ha!' feel free to investigate.

this month there's something else too, a bowl full of fruit. all the fruits mentioned in the tdm in fact, there to be tested on though it looks more like they're just for guests if people are unaware there's some weird shit going on.]

gaze and time loops.

[having lungs mostly working for the moment is pretty great, in viktor's humble opinion. it means walking around the trench doesn't come with the risk of coughing up blood and attracting beasts and generally having a bad time, along with added perks like not getting so easily winded and going for longer. it also means he finds himself out longer than he usually would, which maybe isn't the best, as it turns out.

for example, making his way home through gaze and hearing the chilling cry of a beast, sighing and trying to make his way around what turns out to be the wrong corner. maybe that's where he sees your character before the snarling of a too close beast starts in earnest.

and then snap! they're both back about an hour, where they passed on the street. the look viktor gives is somewhere between resigned and 'fuck this, actually.'] There is a term for this. 'One of those days,' I think.

Does it manifest the magic through itself, or is it magic, condensed into a solid form?

[He doesn't know much about magical items, specifically, besides seeing a few around in Trench; Luna's wand was a marvel, and that was a stick with some stuff in the core. If there were a necromancy marble he could carry around in a pocket, imagine the applications...

Ah, but the applications and the sentimental awe of a much prettier piece of Viktor's world can be put on hold for him to give an amused scoff and cup Viktor's jaw fondly, thumb nudging the corner of that smirk. Please, what if Rio were to wake up and hear this obscene talk?]

I've been trying this whole time not to think about the adult applications of this field, don't tempt me with pillow talk. [And a kiss, brief and shockingly chaste after he suggests banging in the magic bubble,] But yes, absolutely. I'll draw up a list of theorems and we'll compare.

In truth? It is still a matter of debate. Jayce and I would spend hours theorizing. [just nerd stuff. another little pang in his chest because he takes a moment to imagine how delightful it would be to see jayce and pal debate magic theory. it makes him press a kiss to pal's temple and murmur,] I believe it is a condensed though flexible source. That it works here in the Trench supports that theory.

[or if dr sex jr heard? he's probably here, and hopefully won't get lifted into the sky. no saucy talk in front of the skeleton and lizard child, though viktor's still smirking.]

We could make something similar with a darkblood gem, if low gravity is a turn on for you. [amused though yeah, like he'd do it so.] It is easier on the joints.

But if it releases something like this, I'm getting the impression we shouldn't try the laser on it. [Good to know. He would love to have magic arguments with Jayce one day, maybe throw the magic marble around-- no, probably not that. But they could gesture at it significantly, it would be great.

[they kind of are necromancy marbles. imagine the weird and unhinged stuff one could do.] Yes, it's why our work has been as fluid as it is. I feared we'd be working from the ground up but the two gems are similar enough there was only tweaking involved.

[thank god. the laser gets a snort.] No, it would explode if the laser managed. Jayce lost an entire apartment to a rogue crystal.

pal gets a raised brow like really? but he is heartily amused despite it. he is holding his peace, frankly is he ever going to complain about being in pal's arms? never. well, never when pal isn't going to break something trying to do it with his noodle arms.

[Dry, because it fucking explodes!!! Viktor!!— but he shakes his head; alright, alright, Viktor is the magic rock expert, at least comparatively. He's glad the bloodstones don't explode - so far - imagine the mess.

Anyway, now with Viktor sufficiently scooped up, Palamedes can kiss his face with even more gusto than moments ago. Is this how physically strong people feel all the time? Amazing.

Still, with a chuckle,] You wouldn't, because I'd have overbalanced and taken us both down before you got the chance.

[Sad but true. He gives up on pretending like he's standing in midair, at this point, settling into a more comfortable curled up floating position with Viktor in his arms and almost kind of his lap, too. This is the ideal and nobody is going to overbalance into a backwards somersault at any point, for sure. That would just be too silly.]

You found this one in the tunnels, didn't you? Should we go back and look for more someday?
