The Times of Change - Korra Monthly Log
Who: Korra, mix of open and closed prompts - New CR always welcome!
Where: Around and about
When: Throughout the month
What: As her priorities shift, and still mourning the loss of Asami, Korra remembers departed friends, and promises to keep.
Warnings: Possible emotional stuff, some minor violence.
Promises to Keep - Open to Tinya
She'd remembered, as her emotions began to clear, that she'd made promises to help Tinya improve her own abilities, which meant getting things ready again. So she sent a message over with directions to the home/fortress she and Asami had worked on together - carved directly into a rock face at the far end of the map. Remembering the place before, the two main levels were the home - and then there were bunker levels below the ground that could, in an emergency, fit dozens.
But what needed preparing today was a flattened space she'd carefully worked on herself, right down at the water's edge. A stone circle, broken into quadrants - each quadrant with one of the symbols of the elements carved into it. She'd done that by hand, with hammer and chisel. A labour of patience, which was a good reminder.
With Asami gone, she'd left it be and now she was sweeping the last dead leaves and bits of detritus away from it. It would be used again, today.
Commemoration - Open to Usagi
She's been remembering Rei, now that she's making her opening push to see about organizing a Republic. She could use her thoughts on it, and her undoubtedly pointed questions. She had a way of making Korra consider other points of view that she hadn't before.
Something on the air told her that today was a day to remember a departed friend. She made her way down to the shoreline, a small photo in a frame with her, and some incense. She found herself under a red-leafed tree, which she felt appropriate, placing the items with careful reverence. Then, she folded her legs under herself, sitting opposite the photo, and sighed.
"You know, I really could use your advice these days. You are missed, and somewhere I hope you can feel that."
The Snow White Effect - Open to Snow
She watched the calendar with some dread - each month now would roll around, with Asami gone and...it hurt. Like a part of herself had been ripped out and she had nothing to fill it with. She put on a brave face, especially as friends like Luz suffered their own losses - but she'd known what Asami was to her. Avatars tended to instinctively be drawn to those who they were meant to be near. Friends closer than family, bonds thicker than blood - and often to those they knew to be their soulmates.
She was certain, and the rings she'd had made, now shoved in a box in a storage closet where she couldn't see them, attested to where she'd wanted things to go. And now, she was certain, they never would.
She knew the course she was on would make her enemies - and frankly she doubted she'd survive it. The grim weather on the monthly anniversary combined with this to put her in an absolutely awful mood.
Naga, curled up on the living room rug, lifted her head with an interrogative noise as Korra walked by, huffing in disappointment that her mood still hadn't lifted.
Advocating the Republic - Open
The rest of the month, whenever she could, she made speeches, put up flyers, talked to people - about what a Republic was, what the benefits of it were. It was, she was certain the necessary first step. And she was certain the idea was gaining traction; there were always volunteers to help her now, though the numbers were few.
Always, she hammered at the same theme: people should be free, protected by their laws, protected by those with the power to do so - who should not seek power themselves. That the obedience that people owed wasn't to the Pthumerians but to each other - that by organizing, by working together, they could push towards a day when they could defeat the curses this place threw at them so regularly.
In the moment, she was handing out flyers, chatting with a couple. She crouched down to address their small child, smiling at reaching out a hand when the child did. Korra being Korra, essentially.
And not at all noticing a blood minister, nearby, pulling a knife from his robe. The man himself was...disgraced, of no official standing. Which made him the perfect 'lone attacker', though the question of whether or not his appearance here today was...arranged by others? Certainly wasn't about to be answered anytime soon.
The Shop - Open
And she made time to earn her keep, as well - the glass items shop-cart she had built with Mako's help still made its way around Trench, though less often than it had; Naga still pulling it along, the tiny covered shop on the rest of the wagon still filled with potential glass treasures.

She paused a minute, taking a bite of fruit.
"And some people would say that it's good that way, but there's no protection. If someone tomorrow starts stirring up anger against a minority, what is there to protect them? Or if someone wants to control what everyone does? A Republic is made out of its laws - with people voting for who represents them, and regularly changing it when those representatives don't fit any more."

"But people protect each other here, right..?"
It's not even like she's going against what Korra is saying here - though Chizuru is having a hard time wrapping her head around the very concept of a republic, considering the kind of society she came from. She's so used to the shoguns and the emperor just being the boss..
But more than anything - she doesn't want to think of this city as a place where people are unprotected. Because it's sad to think of everyone being in danger, for one, but also since it's scary to think about on a personal level.
"I've been in trouble a lot of times, but people have always helped me out when I needed it."
