[This is a throwback, seeing Ushijima from ten years ago and just as rude as ever to others. Except... Ushijima seems taller, or is he shorter? The question is answered as soon as the voice speaks. He's definitely shorter and that sure as hell sounds like Shōyō mouthing off to Ushijima while Kageyama was right there being... Well, himself. Tooru won't admit it but he's proud of how Shōyō mouthed right back, the kid, now man, can be scary enough in his own right.]

Jeez he was rude to everyone, huh? Not just me but so cocky and full of himself to everyone he met. Though it pisses me off Ushiwaka decided to put Seijoh down like that.

[There's a pause, realising he's just seen a memory not his own. He saw one of L's but this is still WEIRD to him.]

Sho-chan... Was that one of your memories?

[ in the kitchen of their cozy little home complex, shōyō is busy setting aside a mixture of cocoa, some sort of milk and sugar in cups— it’s not exactly all the ingredients they need to make brigadeiro, but then again, trench wasn’t exactly known for being a super market resource. he’s found, hm, cream? was it heavy cream? only the world would know, but it was cream, and a recipe on deernet said he could make butter from cream.

time to put that stuff in a jar and shake it up like a shake weight. he’s even made a challenge out of it: whoever shakes the longest with one arm wins the first spoon!

his propped up omni on the kitchen counter starts— playing something, though, and he knew the voices. he could even imagine it in his head and bounds around the counter mid jar-shaking to see. he doesn’t exactly mind it playing. it wasn’t something super secret, plus! it was incredibly nostalgic. way to go, tiny him! ]

Yeah, it . . . Wait, Ushijima was rude to you?

[ he talked so highly of oikawa that—! ]

[If it wasn't for the sudden memory of Shōyō's, Tooru would still be laughing and being ridiculously competitive right alongside Shōyō, but that gets a stop put in it for now because his mood sours just a bit as he nods and crosses his arms. Expression looking unamused and a bit annoyed, though not at Shōyō himself.

Sure, beating Ushijima and the rest of the Japanese National Team at the Olympics had him less hostile towards the man, but the two still were rivals and Tooru could hold a grudge.]

Oh yeah, constantly. You didn't see him back in middle school or most of high school, he was constantly coming after me to get me to go to Shiratorizawa when I'd already made a promise to Iwa-chan that we'd make it to Nationals together. Arrogant bastard.

[ shake shake shake goes shoyo and his cream jar, all while listening, and, tasting the salt from here. yikes. ]

Maybe he just . . . Really wanted to play with you?

[He can't help the salt, it's a touchy subject for him after pretty much six years straight of hassling.]

He did, but devote my time only to the team's ace? Nah, that's not my style. I wasn't gonna perfect sets for him and him alone.

[And then his own memory of the day Seijoh lost suddenly plays, because Tooru began thinking too much about it.]

[ it's hard for this not to grab his attention— and shoyo tries to show some decency. oh, senpai, you can shut that off if— he starts, but. oikawa seems to be in on it anyway.

shoyo just about gasps. and shakes his jar faster. ]

No way you said that—!

[and then it hits him, not only is the memory clear as day in his mind but it's coming from the onmi too. Well. Great. Boy is he glad he's matured over the years and isn't as hostile towards Ushijima, not that he isn't STILL mouthy, but not as bitter these days.

Hell, he'd even welcome the man if he popped up in Trench.]

Oh. That. That was after you crows beat us in the semifinals, he couldn't even wait to rub our loss into my face.

[Sure puts into perspective why Tooru hated Ushijima so much in high school, doesn't it?]

[ well, he's only got one thing to say about this (in an attempt to not feed too much negativity): ]

Good thing we beat 'em right back, huh? [ and after a pause: ] You said I good deal, I think.

[There's a smirk again at Shōyō's comment. He'd watched that match and was pretty damn impressed by it, despite leaving with Iwaizumi before the awards ceremony.]

I'd have been mad if you lost, the advice I gave Tobio-chan would have been wasted! I was there that day, you know.

[Nevermind that he had wanted both teams to lose at the time.]

Up in the back row, nowhere near the schools cheering. Shiratorizawa's cheering squad was pretty annoying though.

Iwa-chan was also there with me.

I had no idea—!

[ and— he should be done shaking this stuff for butter? it looks creamy enough, so shoyo ceases his shaking to pop the cap open and check. ]

Their's were kinda' scary at some point, but— ours was great! Did'ja see them?!

I'd be surprised if you did, we were pretty far back and out of the way. Maybe a little disappointed if you were paying attention to the crowd and not Ushiwaka's team.

[He's teasing, but also honest about that one. Shiratorizawa then wasn't a team to be distracted with when wanting to win.

Tooru also picks his jar back up and shakes, now that he's not as grumpy, and getting to make a couple jabs about the past.]

I did, pretty big group of 'em. Your cheer squad at nationals was even better, nice touch on the drums.

Would you say it's . . . Better than Aoba Josai's—?

[ shoyo, looking smug— ]

[grandtrashking]

[There's a snort while he rolls his eyes. Though he wouldn't admit it out loud, he does think it was.]

Don't get ahead of yourself Sho-chan. You think I'd betray my old school like that?

[ hehe! ]

Checking or trying to trick me?

[Don't try and trick him Shōyō, he's smarter than that to fall for it.]

Both, if I could trick you.

C'mon, you should know you can't trick me that easily.

[One day he'll let Shōyō think he's gotten the upper hand, but for now? No.]

[ that's his line— but shoyo points at him, with a touch of competition: ]

Not easily— but I can. And I will.

[grandtrashking]

Bring it on Chibi-chan, we can even make a challenge of it. You pull one over on me, I'll do whatever you want for a week. Captain's promise.

[Now he's smirking, and even though he's not a team captain anymore, Tooru feels it's fair to pull that line at least once more. For nostalgia's sake, or something. Or is it just his competitive pride?]

[ oh, definitely. ]

[ which is like gold around here! the stakes are high! but even so—! shōyō extends his hand to seal the pact. ]
