[Oscar looked up-- spoon coated in chocolate batter between his lips and nearly empty bowl in his arms while a generous pan of pastry rose gently in the oven. Hazel eyes were wide with surprise before he looked away in bashful embarrassment.]

Ahaha... sorry.

[He grinned.]

My sleep's been kinda backwards since I arrived in Trench. D-did I wake you?

[Echo, in contrast, looks relatively blank. She does seem interested, at least!]

The odor awoke me. I have also found sleep difficult as of late, however.

...I would not suggest continuing to use that spoon if you intend to keep stirring.

Oh-- this?

[He held up the spoon and, grinning, tilted the metal bowl forward so the girl could see the barest scrapings of batter left coating the interior.]

It's empty anyway. I need to clean it before starting a new batch, but it seemed sad to let any of it go to waste.

You wanna grab a spoon and try some?

[She cranes her neck a little to make sure she has a good look at it.]

I see. Perhaps being more careful with measurements would lead to more efficiency.

[Echo really thinks it's something he's looking for tips on, she's not trying to be rude.

She tilts her head just slightly.]

Is it customary to eat food before it is finished being prepared?

But-- you can't always get everything out of the bowl.

[Especially if you were trying to be sneaky, like he was at 3am trying not to wake anyone. Oscar didn't see her comment as rude. She just seemed... sheltered. As if she had a cake butler, like Weiss apparently did back in Atlas.]

Why wouldn't you eat the leftovers? It's a waste of good chocolate.

Oh. Cooking was not one of my regular duties, so I was not aware of that.

I had thought a food was only "leftover" after most of it had been consumed. It does seem wasteful to dispose of food that is still edible however, yes.

Most of it is in the pan for baking, though. It's just a few bites.

...You wanna grab a spoon and try it?

[Echo gives a small frown while looking at the bowl for a few moments. Suddenly, she silently turns and goes to get said spoon before returning. From the look on her face, it'd be hard to tell if she was actually interested or not if it weren't for the fact that she was holding the utensil.

She then immediately scoops out a small bit of batter and places the spoon in her mouth. Echo ceases moving after that, not really seeming to react to what she's presumably eating. She's just standing quietly in the kitchen, seeming contemplative with a spoon sticking out of her mouth.]

[Oscar watched her carefully, almost on his toes in interest like a little bird.]

.... Do you like it?

[She gives his question an unusual amount of consideration, for anyone but her at least.]

Yes. It is quite sweet with a predominant chocolate flavor. I am unsure if this state is preferable to the baked version, however.
